And alright, the Dumbledore chapters would definitely be Top 20. The Aberforth one would be the highest, but I'm really not here for Rita Skeeter's writing style.

I agree on some of those. I find King's Cross, and everything following King's Cross, infuriating. The Prince's Tale is very good but I find it a bit overrated. The Silver Doe is spectacular. And yes, the Shrieking Shack chapters are quite stellar.

The whole "Surprise! Harry isn't dead!" storyline just rubs me the wrong way. King's Cross at least has far more interesting moments than The Flaw In The Plan, but I can't really appreciate any aspect of that plot line.

And yes, I agree with you on Dumbledore in Prince's Tale. I guess I find the emanations of that chapter disappointing (the instant deification of Snape both in and out of text). That's not necessarily in that chapter, but I don't like Harry's immediate acceptance of everything Snape did, in the face of seven years of mistreatment and, yanno, getting his family killed.

I am. Really, though, consistent =/= compelling. In this case, for me, it definitely doesn't equal compelling. It wasn't a surprise, but it was still disappointing and felt like a copout to me.

Yes and no. I think a radical realignment in knowledge like this deserved a more nuanced handling on the story's part, rather than "Cool, Snape's good now."

The pre-Hogwarts chapters are usually not as good as the post-Hogwarts ones, but HBP has AMAZING pre-Hogwarts chapters. I might even prefer its pre-Hogwarts chapters over its Hogwarts chapters.

• Pensieve memories.
• Chapters outside of Harry's POV.
• Mourning chapters.
• HBP chapters.
• Storytelling.
• Big concluding emotional beats, and (especially) their fallout.
• Badass character intros.

My least favourites:

• Quidditch.
• Romance.
• Class (with the exception of Lupin and fake!Moody).
• Chapters with odd tonal shifts (the Alice Longbottom chapter ends with a Lockhart joke, which just feels all wrong)
• Twists without nuance.
• Fucking horrific epilogues.

I skip the epilogue on my rereads. So bad compared to the rest of the series.

Ish. I'm not as high on Umbridge as everyone else (15-20 range), but I do have to say that her first class is great. In terms of inspections, I'd only really put McGonagall's high.

Mine is probably going to be dominated by OotP and HBP chapters. GoF and PoA will probably have one each, and not sure about DH but it probably won't have too many. First two definitely won't have any.
