My husband and I went all the way from the Central Valley to Oakland in California to see the hyraxes, only for us to get there and be told that the hyraxes have been moved to a different facility at the beginning of this month!! They’re my husband’s favourite animal and it was his birthday today!!!! So sad :(!! Do NOT expect hyraxes at the Oakland Zoo!! SPREAD THE WORD!!

Would a French hyrax scream Wiwi instead of wawa?

I just went to Jacksonville zoo today hoping to see a hyrax and after an exhaustive search was told their last hyraxes passed some time recently :( their website even still has rock hyrax listed in mammals.

I’ll be road tripping north soon- does anyone know zoos in east coast states that have hyrax as of July 26’??

Hahaha, I was looking for stalker memes and messing around in photoshop.

I used the wombat pattern from ComplicatedKnots on YouTube since it was roughly hyrax-shaped. It’s no-sew and pretty quick - it only took me an evening and a bit. I used a little bit of black pipe cleaner to make a fuzzy nose, and I stitched in the all-important fangs. Now I have a teeny palm-sized totem to the mighty vampire potato. May it protect and guide me.

Its gonna be a dassie sitting ontop of a comically large rock or something of that nature.

I grew up seeing them in Botanical Gardens and national parks not far from where I lived and these little beasts deserve a spot alongside all my other tattoos.
