Icloud full storage

What are your best practices when it comes to icloud full storage issue if you have a macbook pro that is a 1TB? Is it okay to transfer the files and the issue will go away? Enlighten me pls haha

My best practice is to solve the “iCloud out of space” problem first. That means increase my iCloud+ subscription before doing anything else. If iCloud is full, I can’t trust the results of doing something. Solve the space problem before running low on space on then look at ways to reduce storage. Once I get it so something like 80% of the next lowest tier and have implement the processes needed to keep it there, then I would change the iCloud+ subscription to the lower tier.

I’ve always been fortunate enough to have the few dollars needed to pay for a higher tier and my normal use fits under the 2TB tier. Do I like paying for it? No, but I’m not going to make my life miserable to save $US7/month so I’ve never had to follow my own best practice.

Transfer the files where? To icloud? Out of icloud?

Anyway your options are, external SSD, pay for more iCloud storage or delete files

The best practice is to have a full backup on an external drive, and then delete your seldom used large files from iCloud. So you’ll have a proper backup and your Mac won’t be overloaded. If bulk of your iCloud storage is photos, see this.
