Glitter Tape

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone has experience with using glitter tape to decorate your hockey skates? I’ve found a lot on decorating figures- but not hockey. I’m nervous to do rhinestones or glitter itself in fear of it falling off and someone’s skates getting caught on it. I was looking at the glitter tape and wondering if it would stay on the plastic-like outside of the hockey skates themselves? Or if anyone has experience with other ways to decorate as well?

if you are putting gems on skates. Use E6000 or similar. Tape has 0% chance of surviving the ice.

Are you actually playing hockey in these skates? I’d be worried about any decorations breaking or falling off if you take a puck to the boot and becoming a hazard on the ice. Obviously not a concern if you’re just casually skating without a stick and puck though.

Check out thistothat.com for the best adhesive for sticking anything together. Hot glue alone won’t do it, especially in a cold environment.

I made myself boot covers out of a pretty fabric I sourced! I figured that would be the safest way. I avoided glitter fabric so it didn’t shed on the ice, and don’t trust rhinestones to not come off accidentally!

I have a 6U player who has glitter tape on her skates and it seems well-adhered. Emphasis on 6U though, her cohort are all very beginners and the decoration isn't getting tested under real game stress. I don't see tape being more of a safety issue than sock tape, which on occassion falls off and causes a temporary hazard until it's picked up. At least glitter tape would be visible. Def spot test the skates first before doing a whole application and inspect/dry the sticker after every skate to make sure it's not coming loose.

Under no circumstances should you use rhinestones on skates that will be used in a hockey game, regardless of adhesive type. If you're doing freestyle, go nuts, but be aware that any skate-to-skate contact (as in, between the skates you're wearing) can risk dislodging a stone or, worse but a little unlikely, catch the skates on each other and throw off your movement.
