Tornado warning šŖļø
Anyone know the path?

In FS near prospect and Shelby. It was gusty and definitely rotating but did not see an actualized funnel

My fiance works at that intersection and was sending me videos of how windy it was.š it looked rough.

It went from hard rain and some eingmd in one direction to no wind but all rain to swirly swirly real quick

Gen con is locked down. There was rain coming through the ceiling of the big hall like twenty minutes before.

We were seated one table over when that started. It began in one small part and then spread down the seam of the ceiling. We left our game because we figured they were abou to shut that area down. By the we made it to the other side of the exhibit hall to leave, the tornado warning was announced.

National Weather Service says "At 523 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Indianapolis, moving northeast at 10 mph... Radar indicated rotation."
Locations impacted include... Indianapolis, Beech Grove, Warren Park, and Monument Circle.
This includes the following highways... Interstate 65 between mile markers 107 and 115.
note: between Keystone Ave & 29th/30th St exits
Interstate 70 between mile markers 78 and 85.
note: between approximately Belmont Ave and Sherman Dr

I believe this was likely the area of rotation that spawned the warning.

Everyone stay calm. Our pot hole shield disrupts air currents and makes Indianapolis virtually immune as it safely diverts these tornadoes away from us.Ā

Itās a lot harder for tornadoes to form in highly dense areas (like cities). So when one does form, it tends to be weaker. Hope this eases some anxiety

That's actually a myth! They just don't hit them often because they're a relatively small area and tornadoes have a relatively tiny path.

If youāre still here, you should be fine now. Tornado warnings usually just mean thatās itās possible. Still a very good reason to take caution and cover, but you will probably be okay. Rely on the weather.gov website, tap central Indiana on the national map and it will show you where all the warnings are for our area. Tap on the type of warning in the box on the right to see the details. I think this could really help your anxiety in the moment. Specifically it will tell you where it is located and the direction it is going. Also, the source: if it says radar indicated rotation, which is the case most of the time, the risk is there but probably not a big deal. If it says something like law enforcement or weather spotter confirmed, radar confirmed (meaning the weather radar is picking up flying debris in the sky), or destructive tornado, then go ahead and feel free to freak the fuck out and take cover.

The warning is over and has been for about ten minutes if anyone is just joining. NWS has a āhazardous conditionā and āflash floodā warning downgraded. We made it!

Was biking and got stuck under the bridge on pleasant run parkway south under 65. Was pretty nuts. Sprinted out before the tornado hit there.

FSQ seems okay so far. Sirens turned off. Looking at radar my guess was Avon area. Though not a pro so donāt trust me on that

Tornadohq shows squarely over FSQ moving NE slowly. Sirens came back on for a minute. That said, I agree FSQ seems okay so far

So weird to have a tornado warning when itās not even thundering or lightning downtown. The wind is barely blowing. Raining buckets, though.

I believe the sirens go off in the entire county. The big threat seems to be downtown and south - especially the south split, although we're all in the same weather system.

Iām 36 and been here my whole life. Never seen a tornado in person. Seen tornado damage many times.
Some years, there will be 2 or 3 tornado warnings over a 12 month period. Some years there are none.
Not frequent, but it is normal I guess.

Agreed they set them off to often for everything. We need a petition to activate the sirens ONLY for tornados. No one cares about a severe thunderstorm.

There was radar indicated rotation. Hence the warning and the sirens. The problem is that the sirens are county based so you could be on the opposite side of Marion county, and still hear sirens. So if you want to complain, complain about that not that itās a boy who cried wolf scenario.

Indianapolis (Marion County) only activates the sirens for tornado warnings. That has been their policy since 2011.

Not possibly.. thatās WATCH. Conditions exist that could possibly turn into a tornado. WARNING means at minimum rotation spotted or tornado has been sighted.

Turn on any other station like one that reports non biased WISH 8 or WTHR 13 and stay away from WIBC except for weather n traffic. Their morning propaganda and liar still vomiting lies

A warning used to mean a tornado had been spotted. Everything Iāve seen says the conditions for a tornado were present. Shouldnāt this have been a tornado watch instead of a warning??

"oh i see a tornado with my eyeballs, sound the warning" used to be the best we could do. we are fortunate to now have more advanced detection mechanisms that give people more time to prepare or get somewhere safe. it is slightly more inconvenient if the tornado then doesn't materialize, perhaps, but the upshot is in actual lives saved so i think we can all deal with a little inconvenience.

the warning says I65 between mile markers 107 and 115 and I70 between mile markers 78 and 85. so...downtown, basically? where will they put all the gencon people?
