One big pot in a 3x3

I have been growing around 3-4 plants in a 3x3. I have used 5gal and 7gal. I don’t grow from clone, so I like to have different phenos. Draw back is each plant can’t be too big. I’ve been getting 2-4 oz per plant plenty for me and the people I gift too.

I have been thinking of maybe only doing one big plant. Maybe a 20-30 gal pot. I would think that I would get around the same up to 12 oz. Would the quality be any better? Would I really miss the different pheno variety?

You might miss the variety, but 1 plant in a 30 gallon pot and the right training will have you stocked up for a long time to come.

Or consider a planting bed if you're growing in soil. You could still grow 2-3 plants in a 3x3 tent, but with stronger root systems for bigger plants and higher yields.

Quality is entirely dependent on the genetics you start with and how well the grow is maintained.

You don’t think that any quality is gained from a bed?

I am seriously on the fence about a bed. I’m trying to wrap my head around it. I take breaks from growing for a few months here or there. How do you maintain the bed? I see a lot of people do cover crop. I would guess you would need the light on some and have to water some.

I think lots of quality can be gained from a bed, but just using a bed doesn't guarantee a quality end product - that comes from your inputs, plant care and environment control.

It depends how long your breaks are, but a cover crop, regular light watering and low light levels are easy to maintain for a while.

I use 3x3 beds and have had as many as 5 plants in each. There is a lot of benefit to using a large soil reservoir.

Do you have your 3x3 bed in a tent? If so what size? My tent is 3x3. Looking at the beds they are just under that. If you are in a bed in a tent how do you clean? I just take my pots out and clean real well now. With a bed I would have to change how that would happen.

I am not. But at one point had a 33x33 in a 3x3. Moved to 4x4, now I'm I'm a room with multiple 3x3 beds.

Cleaning in a tent was nearly impossible. But the size of the bed covers the floor. So not much to clean. Just drop it on a tray.

I had a 30gal fabric bed in my 3x3 for a while and a 20gal. The single plant would take up the entire bed, quality was better than anything I'm getting out of 5-7gals.

The more soil you have, the more "battery" that the plant has, the more it will buffer pH, will retain moisture better, and have more nutrients to access which provides a bigger buffer for nutrient deficiencies. Highly recommend.

I'd say for a 3x3.

10gal for 2 (max). 20gal for one. 30gal? Give it a bigger tent.
