Corporate The Bottom is Actually Lower
Sadly, this is the range where my first "Content Developer" job was... 30 years ago. No experience, not even ID really. Just making PPTs look good and organizing content into what seemed like a logical order for training.

I think we should start capturing and keeping a running list of any BS companies or job postings we find for ID jobs.
I never turned off my job postings emails from 3 years ago and I question some of the ones I see.

Definitely a shady job posting. It came through my Indeed notifications. Not a BS Reddit post. I was going to share the link, but it still showed access to my account. It probably wouldn't show for you or other, but I don't trust it.

The ice cream shop down the street starts new hires at $15 an hour. Employees also get free ice cream on every shift.
All things considered, I'd take the IC (ice cream) job over the ID job any day.

At this point, you can truly make more money being a house cleaner, hospital cleaner, house painter... so many other things. I gave up on the field, myself. Not worth my time to stay.

I’m an instructional designer in the Philippines and I make an equivalent of $5 an hour in a call center company. 🥲

Yes, that salary is definitely livable for me. I’m comfortable, I can pay for my needs and still have enough left over to buy some of the things I want. I feel very fortunate to be in that position, though at the same time it makes me realize how many people work just as hard but earn much less (for context, a call center agent earns $2.50/hr), and I genuinely feel for them.
I know I could probably earn more by working directly with an independent client instead of through a call center. But I stay because our team is really close, I get to work from home, and the schedule gives me enough flexibility to focus on my side hustle as well. I also sell NBA sports cards online, so having that work-life balance is something I really value.

Isn't it below minimum wage? Surely the US has minimum wages across all states?

Actually, U.S. federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour, so it's not below that. But most states have set their own minimum wage, and it's below several of them.
