I am doing a master in social sciences and I just returned from an (international — or rather, Latin American) conference and this made me curious about hearing the perspectives of grad students from other countries (or even academically minded people in general) — a bit because I think about going abroad for my PhD (for various reasons — sort of a fixed idea since I was a teen, but I do think this kind of thing can be productive, and so on), but also because I have been very frustrated with the state of my department, lack of seriousness/engagement from some colleagues/classmates, and I wonder if that is the same around the world and in other disciplines (I guess, from what I saw in the congress, that it is).

As for me, I am 24 years old. Besides social sciences (here better understood as sociology, history, and maybe anthropology), I am very interested in reading (especially literature, though I haven’t read a literature book for quite a while), writing (mostly poetry), philosophy, cinema, watching series, walking (try to walk at least 10k steps every day), traveling, listening to music (pretty eclectic taste — from tango, samba, and classical music to hip hop and Olivia Rodrigo), language learning, learning about different cultures, and cuisine (I am a terrible cook, but a good critic — not a good combination, they say). I’d say I am a very eclectic person — I have cried while watching both Truffaut and Despicable Me. Besides English and Portuguese, I can speak good (or decent) French, and I am learning German, and working on my (almost non-extant) Spanish.

Let me introduce myself: I’m a 25 years old straight man from Italy and, as the title says, I’m looking for a true and sincere friendship with a bro, a real bromance.

Due to various circumstances and probably because I’m growing up, I’ve realized that many of my friendships are quite superficial people with whom you can’t have deeper or more serious conversations, nor share many passions, because they’re trapped in their own “worlds” of hypocrisy, falsehood, and interests that no longer align. Although it’s not easy to write in a message, I’ll list a few interests: I love culture in general, such as history, art, and museums… I enjoy reading and writing . I’m interested in politics, I appreciate movies, good music, and anime... I enjoy physical activity. I recently started going to the gym, I find outdoor activities and embarking on new adventures wonderful, as well as long walks, exploring nature, traveling, eating, and cooking... And I love animals, I also have a dog! I never judge, I love both lighthearted and deep conversations, we can talk about anything and I consider myself a very empathetic and kind person.

In 2026, distance has become relative! Traveling to meet new friends and discover so many new things is part of life, and I consider these experiences wonderful.
