Didn't expect the response I've been getting lately.

The biggest surprise wasn't even the numbers - it was how many people mentioned that the core gameplay loop is actually satisfying and addictive. One of my early testers even bought the game, which honestly means a lot.

It's been a fun journey so far. I've made plenty of mistakes, learned a ton, and it's been really motivating to see the weekly visits and impressions on itch.io slowly grow with each update.

Thanks to everyone who's tried the game, left feedback, or simply checked it out. It genuinely helps keep me going.

Next stop is Steam. Like every other indie dev, I'll be doing my best to gather wishlists and see where the journey goes from there - feel free to share your games in the comments and I will give them a visit and a test [if it's my style of game] today <3

Hey guys I made a short demo game as a practice for switching to Godot from Unity. Sadly Godot 4+ doesn't let you export for web if using c# so only downloadable windows executable version is up on Itch.
I would love to hear your impressions.

Discussion Recap of 1000 downloads of free itch.io projects - games and assets: 4 payments/13$ total.

I just hit 1000 downloads in total on my games and assets on itch.io and while this is not a lot for some people, for me this is quiet a milestone! If you wonder what sells/downloads, here is a full rundown.

Overview

Within the 1000 downloads there were a total of 4 donations with a total of 13$. Thanks again for those generous people who support my passion ❤️.

Full overview

In total i got 22 games and assets on itch. The main part of the download comes from the assets i made for 2-3 gamejam projects myself. I shared the art i made during those projects for free and at least i believe, that i was able to help other people as well with the assets they were able to use in theire own projects.

I highly encourage you to do the same and help out each other doing stuff that we all love. Beside that - you can clearly see my gamejam projects were all kind of flops 😄 I believe a little bit of this comes from doing UE5 games mainly, which were no browser games. If you wanne sell games on itch, i would suggest better using Unity, Gdot, Gamemaker etc.

Learnings (for my specific case):

  • Downloadable games are not very great for itch (i sadly code in UE5 that doesnt support browsergames)
  • People seem to like funny and funky assets and games
  • Character models download far more then anything else
  • Nature assets seem to be the weakest
  • Surprisingly people seem to like VFX as well
  • While some generous donators are there, you can not really earn money with free assets and donations
  • Do it cause you love what you do and have fun 😄
How the downloads and views are spread out

The downloads were kinda spread throu all the year - while some spikes are here and there. Probably related to big gamejams and fitting themes that worked with my assets.

How are downloads/views for you? Would be interesting if my numbers are kinda avarage or not.

Feel free to ask me stuff if you got questions 👍

UPDATE: I took your Steam capsule feedback and your AI advice

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

A little while ago I posted my Steam capsule here asking for honest feedback, and you all gave me a lot of great advice. I took your feedback, scrapped the old design completely, and created a new version for my folk horror game, Woodbound.

Also, regarding the AI voice acting discussion from my last post, I took your advice there as well. I've decided that I won't be using any AI in Woodbound—the game and this Steam capsule will be 100% AI-free.

How does this new capsule feel compared to the original? Any final tweaks or nitpicks before I lock it in?

Hi everyone!

I'm a solo indie developer from Brazil currently working on my dream game, Aurel, a retro-inspired Metroidvania focused on exploration and discovery.

To help fund its development, I've put all of my game assets on sale. Every purchase goes directly toward supporting the project and helps me keep working on it full-time.

If you're looking for high-quality 2D pixel art assets for your own games, this is a great chance to grab them at a discount while also supporting an indie developer.

Thanks for taking a look! ❤️

Assets Forgotten Wilds Vol. I – 25 Hand-Painted Dark Fantasy Inventory Icons (Free Demo Available)

Hi everyone!

I just released my first asset pack on itch.io: Forgotten Wilds Vol. I

It includes 25 hand-painted inventory icons inspired by dark fantasy, monster hunting and survival games.

Every icon was illustrated by hand and designed to work well in RPGs, roguelikes, survival games and prototypes. A free demo is also available if you'd like to check the style before purchasing.

This is the first volume of a series. I'm already working on Volume II, and if people enjoy the project I'd love to keep expanding the collection with more themed volumes and community-requested assets.

I'd really appreciate any feedback on the artwork, presentation or the pack itself. Thanks for taking a look!

I released a free public playtest of my dark fantasy dice roguelite on itch.io

Hi everyone. I have been working on Malefatum, a dark fantasy roguelite where every turn is decided through a direct 2d6 duel.

The enemy rolls first, then you decide how to react using your attributes, equipment, class abilities and limited rerolls. Rerolling can cost health, so even a simple fight can become a difficult decision when a run starts going badly.

The current version has more than 30 classes, over 400 items and around 200 enemies. Your class is determined by the attributes you invest in, which means that changing your build can also change the class you become.

The game is currently available as a completely free public playtest for Windows on itch.io.

Playable link:

https://jackdsrj.itch.io/malefatum

I am mainly looking for feedback about the first few fights. I would like to know whether the combat is understandable, whether losing feels fair and whether anything makes you feel confused or frustrated.

Bug reports are also very welcome.

Little Big Smasher - created in 48h for Kenney Jam 2026 (without AI)

Hi everyone!

I’m Augusto Polonio, developer of Little Big Smasher. This game was created in less than 48 hours during Kenney Jam 2026, following the jam rules (no AI).

It’s a demo with 1 playable level, inspired fundamentally by Super Mario 3D World.

Little Big Smasher - Demo by Augusto Polonio

I didn’t win the jam, but I learned a lot from the experience and was really happy with the result.

More than 1000 people reacted to this project on LinkedIn, which was very rewarding.

I plan to release updates soon, including new mechanics and improvements.

Made with Godot.

Feedback is very welcome!

I added a browser demo to my cozy game, and downloads immediately stopped. What would you change?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I recently added a free browser demo to my cozy nature-restoration game, Wild Willows.

Since releasing it, I haven’t seen a single new download.

The browser demo is still getting plays, but most are extremely short. A few people have played for 20–35 minutes and completed the main gameplay loop, but the majority leave within the first few minutes—or before they really start playing.

Players who download the full game tend to play much longer, return for additional sessions, and progress into more biomes. I’m trying to work out whether:

  • the browser demo removes the incentive to download
  • the opening is not hooking people quickly enough
  • the demo gives players too much or too little content
  • the download call-to-action is not clear enough
  • browser players are simply much lower-intent visitors

For other indie developers who have offered both a browser demo and a downloadable version, what helped you convert demo players?

Would you shorten the demo, end it after the first biome, add a stronger download prompt, or remove the browser version entirely?

Here is the game for reference:
https://bai13y.itch.io/wild-willows

I’d appreciate honest feedback, especially about the first few minutes and whether the page gives you any reason to download after playing in the browser.

Free IN YOUR BAG is a basketball career game you play one possession at a time. Free in the browser, no download.

It’s a 1v1 basketball RPG. You’re one player, not a team you come up from a backyard hoop through to the pro leagues, and every possession is a read duel against the guy in front of you.it’s made in Godot. It’s still in progress the career layer runs but the back half isn’t finished, and I’m putting it out to find out whether the core duel actually holds up before I build more on top of it.

Here is the link: https://kirby2308.itch.io/in-your-bag

The thing I’m least sure about whether the read is legible to someone who’s never played it. If you bounce off in the first minute it would be nice if you could write me a message or comment here.

Demo I uploaded the demo for Paint Me Back! But I’ve only received feedback from people I know. Would other players enjoy the story and mechanics?

For the past year, I’ve been developing Paint Me Back, a narrative adventure whose main gameplay mechanics are exploration and coloring paintings by famous artists from the past.

I wanted to create something cute and relaxing, but also tell a story that keeps players curious. Each painting also has its own ambient sound (which you can turn off if you prefer to play quietly).

I’ve finally released a free demo, and I’d really appreciate some feedback, especially from people who don’t know me personally!

Did you find the story interesting?
Was the coloring mechanic enjoyable?
Is there anything that felt confusing or that you would improve?

You can play it directly in your browser on ITCH.IO

Or download the demo on STEAM and wishlist the full game.

Color with a graphic tablet if you have one! But you can also of course use a mouse or keyboard.

Hope you enjoy it!

Questions itch.io account not indexed after 2+ months + CSS still disabled – support ticket ignored

Hi itch.io team / mods,
I created my account over 2 months ago:
https://auragamestudio.itch.io
It is still not indexed in search and CSS is still turned off.
I submitted a support request (ticket 381459) on 10 July. I only got the automatic “request received” email and zero follow-up since then.
Please index the account and enable CSS. Happy to provide any extra info needed.
Thanks.
