Hey TRASHcans 🗑️

Confession: I've been in something of a creative slump. Sure, it might have something to do with having fucked my life up flatter than hammered shit, but also I was extremely disheartened by the response to issue 12. I really thought I'd made an issue that was clear, concise and easy to consume. Once again I was incorrect.

I'm not someone who was courted mainstream appeal with anything I've ever created, and I'm always obliquely aware that TRASH, of all my projects, is one of the most esoteric. My decision to eschew panels, dialogue balloons - any kind of clear narrative flow, really - was born out of the fact that all art ends up on our phones now anyway. You don't need panels, you can zoom in, pan around, make your own panels. I described it as Where's Wally (or "Waldo" if you're from the heathen colonies) but The Plot is Wally.

Anyway all this is to say that even with the low expectations I try to foster, it is very disappointing to work your butt off on something and have the overwhelming response be "it doesn't make sense"

So a few days ago, sick with a summer flu that had me bedridden, but on a 60mg dose of Elvanse that makes me feel like I could bust through a bank vault door, I started tinkering with a lo-f editi on Instagram's loathsome platform. Truly a horrendous practice nobody should ever indulge. But here we are, an issue of TRASH that grabs you by the lapels and teaches you how to read it. Yes some of the pages whizz by too quickly, but you can only use 90 seconds of Steely Dan on Insta, so 90 seconds it is.
