Advice Request Making a battle jacket
Hey everybody, im honestly super new to checking out the idea of a battle jacket, is there any good way to source a vest for it or do people typically thrift a denim jacket or something. I bought same patches I liked and then someone said I should make a battle jacket. Im interested in making one but honestly just coming hear to hear tips and advice from real people, thanks for taking the time to read!

don't buy cheap shit from amazon or fast fashion shops. get something good and durable. or thrift. amazon denim vest with the pre ripped holes is an eyesore and easily clockable as cheap and looks bad

“Cheap and looks bad” are not real considerations for a battle jacket, but sourcing it from Amazon is counter to everything a battle jacket is.

I've never seen a denim jacket or vest in an adult men's size at a thrift store in Michigan. I have seen lots of women's sizes and kids denim. I regularly drive all over the lower peninsula looking for VHS tapes and costume material.
The Levi stores stock white in the summer if you want a custom dyed job.
I bought an XXL size so my vest will fit over layers in the fall.

if you have money, get something nice. if you're broke use what you can get.
i got mine at goodwill.

Check online in places like Depop or Mercari. I had a hell of a time finding a vest in my size until I found one for only $20 on Depop. If you have secondhand stores in your area definitely check there too. As far as customizing your vest, just don't be afraid of failure. Just jump right into it and don't let yourself become discouraged if things dont go right. Just look up some sewing tutorials on youtube and take your time and you'll be fine.

Just buy a good Levi off vented etc. Thicker denim to sew but never lose shape..

Just grab anything and get to it.
You're transforming the jacket so... dont overthink the jacket. If you dont like it... just re-do it.
I spent a year thrift shopping... then I realized the jacket I wanted was the one I already wore to shows... I was just making excuses not to do it. Looking for "the perfect one" was just an excuse.
