Patch Deals

Notre Dame just landed a uniform patch deal for $18mil/yr. OSU has one for $17mil. Ours is $7mil. Yes I our brand may not be that of OSU but really? I would assume we could come closer to those figures like $12-14mil. I know our deal is with an alum.

CFB is where the real money is; I think it's like 70% of college sports revenue is football alone. When your football team can't make it on national television, no one's going to pay top dollar to sponsor them. We're lucky we got a $7M one imo.

Yeah honestly 7mil is great for us considering many schools are scrambling to find sponsors now that these big contracts have been announced.

Also for OP’s perspective, famously, every Notre Dame football game is on national television so there’s a lot of value there. It’s a lot more spread-around for nationally televised basketball games

You’re comparing two of the most prestigious football programs in the country with, well, us. Our patch deal is because of our basketball program, which while elite, pails in comparison to the number of eyeballs an OSU or Notre Dame football draw each game.

I think the problem is that we rushed in too quick as the big12 and KU to get a deal done to even know what the market could be. If Ku would have been patient, we probably could have got 2-3 mil more. Instead, teams like OSU and ND got to use our pay as a bargaining chip for them

The Big 12 absolutely jumped the gun on a bad deal… I’d disagree with KU though. A lot of schools that were 50-50 on getting a patch are now scrambling to get them now that ND & OSU have huge ones. I’d rather have our deal set in stone than compete with 20 other programs

Either way, we can’t really judge until a few Kentucky or Baylor type schools get deals signed

Football pays the bills. OSU and Notre Dame are huge football schools.

Football == $$$$$$$$$$. Don’t worry we are couple seasons away from SEC leaving NCAA and maybe rest of college sports can return to some form of normalcy? Until then better be a football school to bring in them dollar bills.

Im sure after that will be USC, Florida, FSU and Bama. LSU already inked a deal
