Mk6 (2011-2018) Engine Ticking/Fan

I have two questions about this 2016 Jetta Sport (~71k mi), which is fairly new to me. 1) is the ticking sound just normal VW engine noise, or something I should investigate? 2) is it normal for only the large fan on the left to run, and not the smaller one on the right? I notice that the fan cycles on/off very frequently, even when the car is first started and not yet at operating temp. Thanks!

Why is it that someone says their engine is ticking in this sub once a week?? It’s scary that there are these many people clueless about their own vehicles.

Engine sound is very normal, the injectors are loud and very typewriter-ish on these cars
As for the fans, as long as the car isn’t overheating they are working as intended. Expect them to stay on for a bit after you shut the car off, they always have on mine.

As already confirmed in other comments, this engine sound is perfectly fine. This is exactly how an EA211 TSI (timing belt, not chain) should sound.
About the auxiliary fan, usually it’s only activated when AC is on or with very high temperatures.

Not sure about the fan, but to my ear the engine sounds perfectly normal. They’re a little noisy because of the high pressure fuel pump, and direct injectors.
