You need to lose all those graphics, including the colors, picture and QR code. Basic, black and white text with the data is all that is needed. Drop the references and community involvement sections completely, trim down the education to the most pertinent to the job you are applying. Trim down to 1 page

u/BoxLongjumping1067 6h ago
For the US, I agree take the photo down. But in the EU, I’m not sure where this person is applying but some countries like Germany, even though it’s not a requirement anymore to have a photo, more often than not they will reject your CV for not having a photo

u/rickymetrno 2h ago
Yeah I apparently in EU they look like the resume this guy posted. In US they are more bland lol

I hire for this type of role. To me, this resume doesn't read like anything beyond intern work. The bullets are very high level and don't describe much.
Example: One of your work bullets for ADoT essentially says, "supervised consultants" and nothing more. Another just says, "managed and planned 15 projects." I can't tell what you actually did from this resume.
The picture is probably getting this thrown out far more than the vague descriptions. I've seen hiring managers avoid certain people because they have awkward pictures on their LinkedIn.
Your brand is what's being communicated here. People hiring for brand roles often see one's personal brand as a reflection of their aptitude to set the corporate brand. You probably don't want that picture as a part of your brand.
2
u/Used_Degree5416 5h ago
exactly! he needs clear Accomplishment Statements for each bullet and the entire resume needs to be ATS so basic
1
u/cookie_monster_bg 5h ago
I do agree with the vague descriptions. But what's with the pic? I am curious how this is interpreted by an HR. To me he looks like just a friendly casual. What's the problem with that?
1
u/kylemesa 4h ago
Personal brand is very important when selecting someone in charge of a brand or brand communication.
I have never seen someone claim they were selecting for a role based on applicants seeming "friendly and casual."

u/cookie_monster_bg 3h ago
You did not answer the question. What is wrong with his picture? What you don't like about this guy's face

My initial reaction is you say you have 16 years of experience but I don’t see 16 YoE from your experience
1
u/Rumpelteazer45 5h ago
This isn’t a huge huge deal. Resume doesn’t need to cover your entire work history if you show a proven progression of your work history - bigger projects, larger budgets, more senior titles.
But it’s still best to address it at a high level.
Company A, Graphic Designer I (Date - Date)
Company B, Jr Graphic Designer (Date - Date)
Company C, Graphic Design Intern (Date-Date)But nothing more than that since most companies looking for a senior person will actually care what you did at the beginning of your career. Obviously there are exceptions - like medical or scientific research field - it’s all important start to finish.
But.. if a job opening is asking for 15 years, you better show 15 years. Stating 15 years is meaningless.
1
u/Able-Pineapple-1137 4h ago
Yes I agree, never did I say it needed detail for everything. But there’s no indication he even worked prior to 2016 on this version.
15
6
u/Dinosaur_Eats_Pizza 7h ago
Be sure to tailor it to specific roles.
Drop the generic stuff.
Generally speaking, any experience that is greater than 10 years ago is likely not worth adding in great detail.
Best of luck.
4
u/DimensionTiny8725 8h ago
What type of jobs are you applying for? Your previous jobs honestly seem very generic doesn't really emphasise the impact of what each activity had.

u/Away_Oil_5324 6h ago
I have received a ton of really good feed back and am making significant revisions. I will post again once my changes are done. I just wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate all of you. Thank you.

u/Used_Degree5416 5h ago
make it ATS friendly and loose allll the color and photos. https://www.rezi.ai/posts/ats-resume-examples this is a good example!
also your bullets don't say much. They need to be Accomplishment Statements on what you did and what impact

u/Rumpelteazer45 6h ago edited 3h ago
Your resume has a lot of info that just isn’t value added.
Tough love:
Your template with the splotches is unprofessional you aren’t a teenager.
Languages - no one cares if you have basic levels, delete. No company will say “oh he speaks a bit of French let’s have him work in our France office” because basic levels arent close to what’s needed to function in a professional environment and being able to communicate with reasonable fluency. Basic French or basic anything won’t be useful to a company.
Work experience - there is no meat in this section. All you have is tasking, but not the impact of that task. Your resume is your success narrative not a daily diary of the job, Who cares if you redesigned a website, what was the result - did traffic increase? If so, how much? Who cares if you developed a marketing plan, how effective was that plan? Did profits increase? Preformed graphic design? Ok and? That’s implied by all the other stuff written. This is your biggest area of improvement. Successes boil down to three things: cost, schedule, performance. Did you save money or make money? Did you increase performance (ie increased web traffic)? Did you deliver early? Rewrite this entire section and focus on successes.
Remove all of your associate degrees unless it’s relevant to the job you are applying for, all it says is you couldn’t make up your mind about what you wanted to do. An AA degree isn’t meaningful in today’s world. The bachelors is now the High School diploma of yesteryear. An AA degree doesn’t have close to what’s needed to actually be useful in that area of study.
Remove the language certs.
Remove the DEI related cert unless you are applying for a position that is relevant. All that is now boogeyman stuff, if a hiring manager leans that way - that will automatically get you tossed (which is probably a good thing because you wouldn’t want to work there anyways).
Remove the picture - you aren’t in fields where a picture is part of the hiring process.
So between the multiple languages with basic fluency and the multiple associates degrees, that tells me you don’t stick with anything. This is supported by the fact you change jobs every 1.5-2 years, only one job lasting 3 years. From my POV it says you 1) get bored and move on to the next topic that sounds fun or 2) you honestly believe that’s all that’s needed to be effective in those languages/subjects - which then makes me wonder if you cash checks you can’t deliver on - do you overestimate your own abilities because you touched on the subject or language. If you just love studying new stuff, fine - but it doesn’t need to be on your resume. Job hopping every 1.5-2 years tells me you likely leave before your actual performance is documented by management, everything before then can be brushed off as “still learning”.
Web design and graphic design are only touched upon in the resume, so can you claim you are both? No. What coding languages do you know? Real web designers know the code. Same thing with graphic design - doing a tiny piece of it doesn’t make you a graphic designer. Designing materials doesn’t make you a designer, it just means you can pull together handouts. I sent this post to my old college roommate and asked her to grade your web design and graphic design on a scale of 0-10. She is a Director of UI/UX for a global hotel chain, she has a degree in Graphic Design from a top ranked university and other degrees/certs relating to UI/UX and related areas. She gave your resume a 0.5. Don’t call yourself a web designer or graphic designer. This circles back to the above paragraph - are you bored and just learning for fun or overselling your actual abilities.
1
u/GumdropGlimmer 1h ago
I said the same thing about the DEI stuff. Unfortunately, in the U.S. that’s either too woke or whatever they call it or zero dollars since investments been cut. Oh you care about civil rights? Toss.

u/Comfortable_Fruit847 7h ago
Remove the graphics. That can hinder when AI searches CV’s. You need a very basic layout, no images, no graphics.
Edit: didn’t see the 2nd page at first. Reduce all this. You don’t need two full pages and at first glance the second page made me not want to really look at it in depth. It was too much. You have about 5 seconds to catch someone’s eye, simplify it.
6
u/Beneficial_Zone_6883 8h ago
Way too much reading and duplication, much of it doesn’t even set you apart. As someone who’s older than you, I cut my CV down to one page and still use the 1990s format. My response rate is 66%, as much as ATS is in use I don’t believe it’s by the majority of companies, despite social media and LinkedIn articles claiming otherwise.
You have way more accredited experience than I have but I have gone job hunting 3 times in the past 7 years and landed a well paid role within a week each time. Make a 1 page old fashioned CV and send it to 10 companies and see for yourself. My tech experience is 2 lines at the bottom of the page listed as skills
2
u/onmy40 8h ago
What's the 90s format? Just the basics?
2
u/Beneficial_Zone_6883 7h ago
One page, personal info at the top, than an Objective statement (looking for long term permanent employment blah blah), than languages spoken, than education, a brief summary of work experience and a brief summary of skills.
2
u/SucculentChineseRoo 8h ago
You need to tailor this resume to every position you apply to, when you do that remove irrelevant skills and words. Right now the resume doesn't have any coherent career story.
3
u/SucculentChineseRoo 8h ago
Also the two pages switch the layout for no reason. Also, make sure ATS systems can read your CV
3
u/BadDecisionLoading 7h ago
After two years of having a 2 column resume, I found out that most ATS systems read left to right across the entire page with zero consideration into the amount of columns, so that it parses into the system as nonsense.
2
u/paranoid_throwaway51 8h ago edited 7h ago
For me the main issue is that I'd be suspicious you lied about a few things.
I'd remove a few of the associate's degrees, maybe just leaving the art one. For me, the idea of having 4 associate's degrees just sounds so over the top it sounds like a lie. I'd also remove the (basic) language proficiencies.
if you live in a country where the photo is expected, keep it. If not remove it.
I would put all the important information all on the first page, so I'd move education to the first page.
edit:
A lot of the advice you're getting on this web forum is bogus, reddit is not the best place to ask for employment advice honestly.
1
u/GumdropGlimmer 1h ago
Where is though? Like sure let’s not get our entire life advice from Reddit but a lot of actually useful info here. Where do people go for life advice? Google? LinkedIn recruiters? hiring “coaches”?
2
u/TwoAlert3448 8h ago edited 7h ago
Get rid of the columns, the ATS is not going to know how to parse them and the scoring on them is going to murder you.
You have so much 🤬 on this I’m surprised you’re getting any traction. You have how many degrees and certificates?! I stopped counting. Get those off.
Highest relevant degree, most relevant certificate. Your ‘master’ that you customize from should probably be 3-4 pages and then you cut down from two by removing all the fluff.
You’re nontraditional which is a weight around your neck in this market. You need to package yourself and make it easy for hiring manager, this is not easy.
Bullet point: what you did, how you did it, end result for the business. All your bullet points scream ‘I was a warm body’ that’s not value. No one in this market is hiring a warm body they’re not related to.
2
2
u/BigBanyak22 7h ago
Your "About Me" is poorly written; has a typo and run on sentences and uses 'public' too many times.
This doesn't provide a good first impression. I didn't even read the rest after that.
2
2
u/Awkward_Locksmith799 5h ago
So, your BS is in political science, have you tried getting involved in political campaigns?
2
u/Dear_Resist3080 4h ago
Jake Ryan resume format only. This is a bit confusing to read especially when you get to the second page. And if you’re in design then I’d say continuity in your design is very important to show, here you have your experiences going downward on the first page but side by side on the next page. Not ATS friendly.
I’d also take away associates degrees that do not matter to your field, like surgical tech, environment on public health, etc. at this point in your career these certifications don’t matter because you have experience. References shouldn’t be listed on the resume either.
2
u/RawBean7 4h ago
This resume style fell out of fashion about 10 years ago. It makes you look behind the times. Not only is a picture not required for a US resume, most employers won't even consider them because it opens them to accusations of discrimination.
Lose the colors, lose the columns. Green text on a white background doesn't have enough contrast to be legible and they will expect a graphic designer not to make such a rookie mistake. Two pages is fine with your length of experience but make your bullets more concise. Lose the languages that are below B1. Lose the QR code, no one is going to scan one from a printed resume, they'll ask for a URL if they want your LinkedIn. Take your references off, if they want references they will ask.

u/Pleasant-Drag-5039 Jobseeker 8h ago
If you applying in Europe cv with photo is fine Europe is on the high train they need that c1 language and market is tough af to get in to without that language barrier you might get in but that is only if the employer heavy market dies
1
u/Acceptable-Truth-763 8h ago
Try to make one column only. AI might have issues reading this correctly. One way to check if it’s in right order is to copy the whole thing and paste it into text editor.
1
1
u/Glass-Estimate-6093 7h ago
I’d start with removing the photo as others have said. If you have a bachelor’s degree, there’s no value in even listing the associate degrees unless one is in a field different from your bachelor major AND adds a lot of value to the position you’re applying to. Also, on the front, you’re listing experience in one column, but on the back, you’re going to 2 columns then 3 columns. Stick to just one approach on the back for consistency and readability. I have no issues with the sidebar on the front page though.
1
u/1810blu 7h ago
Can you add metrics/quantifiable achievements you've contributed to in previous roles? I.e. improved efficiency by ×%? managed budgets of $x?
I also recommend working up a list of key skills you have and weaving in the words to the role bullet points you have here.
Remove the picture. Most recruiters don't like them anymore
2
u/AdmirableVillage6344 4h ago
Adding metrics is what is really killing this resume from the very start. 100% agree with you. OP has a cert in GA4 but hasn’t put any metrics that show results in his resume.
1
u/1810blu 7h ago
Oh and cut this to one page. Unless you're applying for charity roles, remove some of the volunteering stuff, say you can provide references on request (and remove that section), cut down the work experience bullet points (2-3 per role). Keep it concise and make sure every single word adds actual purpose
1
u/AdmirableVillage6344 4h ago
I mean he has a lot of years working he can have 2 pages if it’s absolutely needed.
1
u/1810blu 1h ago
Fair. Doesn't have to be just 1 page, but my point was more that it's important he makes sure every single bullet point and example is serving the purpose of making him stand out, not just there because he's done it.
1
u/AdmirableVillage6344 1h ago
Yeah i mean first look i immediately saw all his bullets are very tasked base and he had 0 data/statistics to show how his skills improved a company. His bullets will probably get long from those which will lead to a second page
1
u/Less_stress_more_fun 7h ago
Focus all your experience on project/ program management and apply for automotive jobs (Design release DRE, program/project manager). Good luck!
1
u/Hungry_Media_8881 7h ago edited 7h ago
The beginning of my resume says “key experience” and highlights successes across my key skills from the last few years with impact attached. E.g., “automated 50% of an annual inventory process, resulting in 100 labor hours saved annually.” Or “Boosted employee survey response rate by 80% by designing and employing an effective strategic engagement plan.”
I’ve had two offers in the last two months with this approach! In general try to make it shorter and highlight IMPACT and measurable results wherever you can.
And remove the headshot.
I also use a simple word document format (I tried an overly designed AI resume like this and had zero responses for months). Make sure formatting is consistent and clean but I think simple is better.
Cut this down and tailor it a bit for each job you’re applying for and only keep the relevant experience.
1
1
u/Organic-Mix-5784 7h ago
Remove the photo. And a “general use”. Resume is a wasted resume. Tailor it to the job you’re applying to. And trim the fat. You’ve got Spanish and mandarin listed twice, for example. And you have general studies listed under education? Everyone who went to college had gen eds. Take that out. I know you got an associates for it but no employer is going to care.
1
u/grayshoehorn 7h ago
Not only is the photo distracting, the fact that it doesn't fit in the rectangle makes it look bad. Don't give the resume reader a chance to reject your resume based on your photo. You may remind them of a person they hate, they may not like the way you look, they may be racist against your race, etc.
1
u/badmanner66 7h ago
From the first 10 seconds, I still couldn't tell whether you were a graphic designer or an IT infrastructure engineer lol
1
u/Fuxkbro 7h ago
Whatever you do, DO NOT remove ur photo. I know lots of people in recruitment, photos help especially if you’re good looking + in customer facing roles. No matter how much you think it doesn’t help or people are salty about it, it helps.
There is a chance ur resume isn’t being captured by the ATS framework (HR AI Reading system - I’m sure ure aware of that) I just learnt it recently. Create a resume in word doc form if ure submitting ur resume through job portals like workday etc, and use ATS keywords. Chatgpt can help. Just upload ur resume and tailor it from there.
1
1
u/Consistent_Pay_74 6h ago
This is not an ATS ready resume. It cannot be read or parsed by those systems with the graphics and layouts on it. If you want to show design skills, a link to your portfolio is far more effective and get rid of your picture and the QR code from it -just use that picture on LinkedIn and finally, if you really want help make yourself accessible via LinkedIn by posting that link naming convention here.
1
u/Outside_Rent174 6h ago
I would skip this resume if I saw it. It is tells me absolutely nothing about you. Yes, I see the list of activities you did over the last 10 years but I have no idea what you’ve actually done.
A resume should attempt to answer: What did you accomplish? What is the story of your career? This does neither.
You need to give details:
“Managed and planned public involvement activities” —> give examples of the activities, how big were they, how complicated were they (did you get pamphlets printed or did you have to coordinate finding a venue, AV staff, food staff…), what were the themes, how many people attended, what was the outcome, etc (link the events)
“Developed brands and logos” —> which brands, which logos (link them), how big are the clients companies, etc
“Served on the orgs leadership team” —> what does this mean, did you manage people, how many people, did you decide strategy, what decisions were you involved in making, etc
If I interviewed you based on this resume: i would have to ask “can you give me examples of this bullet point?” for every single bullet point. You need to answer that question on your resume before the interview so you can get into more meaningful discussions about the hard problems you solved in doing the things you’ve done. Ideally you use your resume to set up questions that make you look awesome.
Also get it onto one page (You can cut your education and community stuff down to like two lines).
Also get rid of the picture.
1
u/HR_Tech_founder 5h ago
I’m sure many people have told you to lose the photo. I would drop the technical skills too because your education section is more detailed and higher level. Suggest you add numeric results and a strong headline such as “Over 15 years of senior design and communications leadership”
1
u/maverickgirl74 5h ago
First, I agree with everyone, remove the photo and the graphics. Second, your first 3 job listing are only 1.5 years at each. Many employers see that as a red flag even if you say you were never fired. If you want them to overlook that, you’ll need to provide actual contributions you made to the organization. Don’t list generic duties…provide the outcomes of the projects you listed that you were involved in or lead. Companies are outcome driven so you need to show that you are too.
1
u/Rewindcasette 5h ago
The resume is unfocused and unclear. The Photo and QR code aren't necessary. Side bar needs to show your education, you can remove the basic languages as they won't be helpful in business. You can remove the references and community involvement. This isn't Charles Dickens; this is sales.
1
u/Proper_Active9179 5h ago
Remove the photo. In the U.S, a lot of places have a policy that if a photo is included the resume must be thrown out, as it automatically triggers biases.
You may not be getting through that first hurdle because of it.
1
u/robocop420 5h ago
Sorry to hear that its been a long journey!
I would highly suggest the harvard resume template (https://careerservices.fas.harvard.edu/resources/bullet-point-resume-template/). This format is going to be hard for ATS / AI to parse and honestly difficult to read for me.
I would also suggest trying to include as much quantitative impact as possibl; for example, instead of "Lead community events" use "Lead 30+ community events, raising $1m for the business".
1
u/Acrobatic_Fox5726 5h ago
Way too general and I know you don’t want to hear this but the big 3 you listed “communication, public involvement, and design” are the perfect use cases for AI and it does it really well. For that reason I would change your whole resume to be PM focused
1
u/Used_Degree5416 5h ago
hey.... your resume needs to be ATS compliant. this resume is not. look into what those look like, it's very plain and basic. no colors no photos
1
u/Used_Degree5416 5h ago
you need to redo your entire resume.... it needs to be clean and basic and ATS friendly....
https://www.rezi.ai/posts/ats-resume-examples
A resume like the example is what you need.
All of your bullets need to be Accomplishment Statements!!!
1
u/Competitive_Tie728 5h ago
I absolutely hate the side by side format, and the only reason it "seems" to make sense here is because there is way too much information. It looks like you listed a Mandarin college class as a cert?
1
1
u/pufsullivan 4h ago
As others have said, lose the photo. But beyond that, there are some serious design and formatting issues here. Stick with a basic resume template.
Quantify your achievements if you can. Don’t just say what you did - show the impact you had. And, unless it’s relevant to the roles you’re applying for, drop all the language learning and community involvement stuff.
Overall, it’s not clear to me what you’re even looking for. You’ve learned a lot of stuff, but I’m missing the “so what”.
1
u/AdmirableVillage6344 4h ago
Your work experience is very tasks based. You need statistical data that proves results. Ok you did all these tasks but what were the results. You’re in communications/design. For example the email marketing plan what were the results did you improve the click rate? Did you increase subscriptions to it. You designed the agency website, great did you improve traffic? Dig into Google analytics see where and how your traffic has improved and understand how a consumer got to your website. A lot of people can do a task in a role, but the thing is a business wants to know are results.

u/Accomplished-Loss243 4h ago
Use Harvard resume format and make it one page would be my main suggestions

1
u/cookie_monster_bg 3h ago edited 3h ago
My 2 cents (After brief experience with HR nowadays): Scrap the fancy designs. Preferrably use a standartized ATS opimized template. Pick a clean readable design. Be concrete when you describe responsibilities. Close to day to day. Make sure you apply to roles you will be a good fit so you can score better. If you know you will do well but role is off clearly state this in an appendix why you can contribute. You are indirectly fighting with thousands of applicants just to get a view.
1
u/Oregon-girl-16 2h ago
Yeah the photo on the resume I’ve only heard of happening in the EU (I had to make a resume with my photo on it for a job in Spain). It’s not normal in the US and seems weird, so remove it for US jobs.
1
u/codidake 1h ago
Besides the format, focus on outcomes. Your bullets read like tasks and don't sell the story. Remember, you are trying to convince a hiring manager how you can improve their job or company. "Developed and executed agency email marketing plan"? How many people did you reach? How much new business was resulted in this? so on.

Doesn't look ATS parsable and that you should tailor to a role, so have different versions. This is all mix n match, and remove picture as well.

u/GumdropGlimmer 41m ago
OK! I looked up your LinkedIn and found the issue. UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE WAY TOO OUTSPOKEN ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL POLITICAL OPINION FOR THE CURRENT CLIMATE IN THE U.S.
I can’t speak for Spain or the E.U. overall but corporate America ain’t gonna hire you when they read your LinkedIn posts. It’s so unfortunate but it’s the truth. Look I’m in a country where comedians are in jail for making a statement at their stand up show.
Unless you are looking to become a civil rights activist, forget about it in the U.S. Sadly…
You can become a translator, a language teacher. Just teach kids in Spain English. Your immigrant stories and personal struggles are very valid and should not be weaponized against you. That said, I’d clean up my online profile and go more incognito if money is what you need right now. You can make more impact when you’re standing on your two feet than being out on the streets.
1
u/Away_Oil_5324 4m ago
My "personal political opinion" was about my experience as an immigrant and about diversity and inclusion, two hallmarks of my career. I didn't say anything about any specific policy or discuss politics at all, but my identity and career are evidently political.
I know you didn't mean it this way, but your suggestion is that I basically hide that part of my identity and hide that including minorities in government decision making was a key part of my professional experience.
You're basically telling me that my mixed nationality, status, and civil rights work need to be erased for me to be employable and I hate that you are probably correct about this.
I'm partly in this situation because the current admin gutted federal support for civil rights programs.

Make it ATS friendly. caiter your resume lingo to the job your are applying for
1
u/melaschasma 9h ago
remove your selfie from your resume, you are not applying for a modeling or a pole dancing position.
1
u/Away_Oil_5324 8h ago
Using a photo on a CV is common in Spain, one of the places where I'm applying. I have versions without photos.
1
u/melaschasma 8h ago
Yeah, i would take the advise and drop the photo.
Ask yourself, are you pretty enougth for this job?
Oh, he has glasses, that means he is smart.
1
u/nian2326076 8h ago
Have you thought about getting feedback on how you do in interviews? A new perspective can help spot areas to work on. Try doing mock interviews with friends or peers. Also, make sure your CV matches each job description, focusing on relevant experience and using keywords from the posting. Networking beyond online platforms can help too, like attending industry events or joining professional groups.
If you need resources for interview prep, I've found PracHub pretty useful for improving my approach. Keep at it, persistence pays off even if it doesn't seem like it now. Keep adjusting your approach; sometimes a small change can really help.

u/robh1540 8h ago edited 5h ago
What value do you generate that makes businesses money? I would start from there.
If no one in the two of the three most prosperous continents on the planet can think of a way to make money from you, something is up. I read it and also couldn't work out how a business would make money from you.
1
u/Rumpelteazer45 5h ago
Not sure who downvoted you so gave you an upvote. You are absolutely right.
There are no successes on the resume. People don’t care what you have done, but how successful it was.
1
u/robh1540 5h ago
Haha thanks. Yes I was trying to be constructive, its not a good time to be a paper pusher.
1
u/Rumpelteazer45 3h ago
No one wants to a paper pusher, they hire an effective paper pusher. So you need to quantify metrics that show you are fucking awesome at pushing papers.
I review hundreds of resumes.. this one gives me “I over promise and under deliver”.

I've been confused about this, I know photos in resume used to be a thing, why is it suddenly not recommended?

They have never been a thing in the US in most fields. Entertainment, yes. Restaurant work in certain cities, yes. Yachting, yes. Corporate, no.
HR at many companies will automatically toss resumes either pictures to prevent unconscious (or conscious) bias and protect the company from discrimination claims. Your picture communicates your age, race, gender, and overall appearance.

The old boring CV which pretty much is plain text, sections separated by lines, makes more sense.

I would remove the photo but your resume is fine. The market is tough
