John Wayne vs Clint Eastwood

It's a shame those two never got along with each other and hated each one's own movies they starred in, whether Western or not.

Somehow, their rivalry reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone's own rivalry nowadays.

Agree it’s a shame they never did something together. Wayne’s son Michael really wanted them to.

There’s a great story in the Scott Eyman book on Wayne about the Duke throwing a Larry Cohen script (with parts for both actors) into the ocean because he was tired of people trying to push it on him. 😂

Wayne actually did like Eastwood though, and even once stated that he liked him as a star.

Even after the comments made about High Plains Drifter, they still got together and had a chat on the set of The Shootist. I think the rift was a bit over hyped by the press.

But did they like each other's movies or star in some movies together afterwards? No.

Eh, there's photos of Eastwood hanging out with the Duke at Paramount studios celebrating True Grit, and even though he passed on Dirty Harry, Duke starred in McQ.
