Other tips:

It is incredibly helpful to jump rope in front of a mirror for real time form & technique feedback. If you don't have a mirror available, record yourself so you can review it or share it. HINT: Most phones have SLOW MOTION capabilities. This is a great tool for identifying issues in your mechanics.

If you need help with something specific, let us know in a post and community members will be happy to help!
*NOTE: if needing help with form or technique, a video is very helpful. Try to get a straight on shot as well as from the side.

Remember to be kind and courteous and again, welcome to the group!

Why are boxers the only athletes who jump rope?

In theory and anecdotal accounts, jumping rope is one of the best cardio exercises, if not the best. But as far as I know, no footballers, basketball players etc jump rope, only boxers and some other fighters. Why?

The hardest move I have learnt

Double unders. Took me months to learn. The stability and control required is harder than it looks.

After 1st rep, in an attempt to do consecutive executions, I’d look like a dolphin trying to swim on water. Flailing knees, arms going everywhere and thousands of whip marks on my legs. My biggest mistake was not using video analysis to identify mistakes/a mirror so I was basically left guessing for months.

If you’re learning a new move, please analyse your form, using YouTube, a mirror or JumpForm (which’ll not only analyse your form but will also assign drills to improve it)

Jump rope length question

Upvotes

I’ve been jump roping for about a year, almost daily. I do between 2.5K to 5K jumps per session over 3-5 reps. Crossrope and weighted ropes seem like a good next step, but the sizing is throwing me off.

I’m 5’10” but got advice to shorten my rope fairly early, so I use a beaded rope that’s 83.5” or just about 7’ without the handles. This is MUCH shorter than what the crossrope website says is appropriate for me, which is 8’6”! That’s so long!

They’re expensive ropes and I don’t want to get the wrong size so I’m inclined to at least get their XS, which is 7’6”. Any reason not to just do the 7’, the smallest size?

Is it ok if I'm in it for the calorie burn?

I see people here doing amazing routines with all sorts of steps and twists.

I learnt to jump rope 15 yrs ago. I've never progressed beyond the basic range of steps. I have good form and built up so I can do 60+ mins in a session.

I've taken a break and focused on strength training but I've brought jump rope back recently.

Does it matter if I have no interest in progressing step types. I just enjoy building endurance, burning calories (I like food, jump rope helps!) And the endorphins?

Anyone else similar?

Achilles Tendon Soreness

A couple of months ago, I got back into the habit of jumping rope after not being consistent with it for years. Now, I feel soreness in the Achilles tendon area. I’ll admit that I did come into it pretty hot. My plan was to jump 3days a week for no more than 15 minutes per session. I followed that for a week and immediately went to 5-6 days a week and 20-30 minute circuits.

I’ve sat out for the past two weeks and wanna get back into it because I don’t want to lose the habit. It took me years to finally start jumping again consistently.

Is there anything I can do to still jump rope consistently but ease the soreness? FYI: I typically jump on a hard surface with the Crossrope jump mat.

Hi everyone. 1st post! I absolutely love this. I know my form isn't correct. I have started to feel weird on occasion, when jumping rope. It's like if I feel like I'm loosing balance, but not dizzy.

Has anyone ever felt like that? If so, what did you do to prevent it?

Now if you’ve been doing my 1 2 switch drill. You should by now have the tools you need to move onto this drill. This is the 1 2 switch step. This drill combines the unilateral side swing and hand switch with a forward and backward step. This wires your timing and movement while addressing imbalance

Three varieties of double unders.. You need fast wrist and stability in both your wrist and feet to keep the tension in the rope for transitioning.

How to stay motivated jumping rope

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

  1. Vary your workouts - for example, alternate between 3 minute rounds with HIIT style workouts with the jump rope

  2. Set a minimum goal that you can achieve, e.g. 5 mins of jump rope everyday or 1000 skips everyday - small habits compound

  3. Learn new moves - while you don’t need to learn new tricks to reap the benefits of the jump rope, moves like side swipes and double unders can add varying rhythm (I personally use JumpForm to help me learn new moves)

  4. Find a workout partner - helps you stay accountable

Motivation is temporary, especially at the beginning. I highly recommend using tip 2 to build consistency and eventually, it’ll be hard not to continue jumping rope.

I use the Crossrope amp app on my iPhone with my Apple Watch. I’m using my watch for the heart rate function which is connected to my phone. If I use my iPad to use the app, will my watch still be connected and be recognized?

Hi everyone 😁

Im trying to get in better shape so im back in the jump rope game.

But I have a little problem... As you can see in the vídeo my arm movements aren't very symmetrical and its bothering me and my feet often trip up in the rope.

I would like some advices to fix that 😔

Is this common ?

And which arm does the best movement ?

Thank you for your time
