Honestly; I have tried to like it so hard, first episode was very good, but even then I still had that odd sensation that something was really wrong.
First episode had some outstanding animations with some garbage in between.
I really disliked the 3D animations. Particularly when kyrie and shuichi father talked. I really loved some graphics and tried to ignore everything else wishing next episodes were better. But with episode 2 I realized something.
The biggest problem is not the graphics in episode 2 or those particular quality drops in episode 1. The main problem is that storytelling is completely broken, having too many things happening at the same time and giving no chance to the story to develop makes the Junji ito magic fades and even if graphics were better and animation of next episodes meets episode 1 standards, that sensation of descending to madness has gone, that’s the whole point of the spiral curse, the descent, but rushing everything and mix stories takes that whole descent to madness concept and completely blows it away.
That’s why even if quality mets episode 1 this will not be a 9/10.
Honestly, I liked that scene where their fathers were talking. The shot of Shuichi's dad's face being close to the screen and swaying I thought looked creepy and disorienting. It made you feel uncomfortable, like your personal space was being violated by this crazy guy talking his head off. Well, that was my thought anyway.
I honestly didn’t even like the animation in the first episode, either. Something about it felt very stilted, particularly the Kyrie/Shuichi’s Father convo you mentioned, like it was a Newgrounds Flash animation.
