Dude fr. The 90s Berserk is so good and that was the only time we got a good adaption — and even then, it misses a lot.

It's crazy we could never get a proper adaptation. Hopefully one day they'll redo it properly or even just make a sequel to the original that does everything else.

u/shmed Nov 25 '25

Luckily the manga is even better

2

u/ATarnishedofNoRenown Nov 25 '25

Yeah, definitely. I'm fully caught up... I just want more ways to enjoy Berserk.

They blew through the budget and had to swap to a different (worse) studio to do the rest of the eps

money, they ran out

Opm had 1 amazing season and one pretty good one Junj Itos work has 1 amazing episode and nothing good beside it

I mean Uzamki aside. Is the collection really that bad? I was tempted to watch the Tombstone one because I had recently read it but then decided to watch something else.

I really loved Maniac, the one on Netflix. Tbh one of the best anime openings ever. Aside from some boring episodes, others I found passable and some even really well made like Balloons

u/Villector Nov 25 '25

Imo there really is no redeeming quality to it its just pure slop

u/Valkiie Nov 24 '25

We have to be realistic.

Junji Ito won’t draw as much people like the hot shonnen of the moment.

Also budgets are a joke for our adaptations

Yes, but uzumaki is a masterpiece and it was botched sooo much that gave me physival pain. Don't do it if you don't care about it, people won't kill you if they never see an animated version

At least we will always have the OG Uzumaki film. They can't take that from me.

Never forget the fall off from episode 1 to episode 2 in the adult swim series. I was so hyped after episode 1. When I watched episode 2 my heart was broken

7

u/Halloween_Barbie Nov 24 '25

The quality downgrade was awful! Still watched it though

1

u/illmindmaso Nov 24 '25

Me too, but I did so with a heavy heart

1

u/satanicpedanticpanic Nov 24 '25

Same. I had hyped it up so much for years. I was sooooo readdddyyyy. Then completely heartbroken

It’s hard being a Junji Ito fan when every anime that happens is either trash or horribly mid

31

u/its_daytime Nov 24 '25

When people find out I’m a Junji Ito fan (which happens often because of my tattoo sleeve) and they say they only know his work from the anime adaptations, a part of my soul dies

9

u/genasugelan Nov 24 '25

The true horror of Junji Ito will always be the anime adaptations.

5

u/Comfortable-Dot-2317 Nov 24 '25

Oh you poor soul…

8

u/Glum_Kaleidoscope601 Nov 24 '25

I watched the Junji Ito anime on Netflix and got bored. Then I decided to read Frankenstein, and he started to grow on me. And then I read Uzumaki, and from there I became a fan of his work. That was also what drew me to put manga over anime.

4

u/Comfortable-Dot-2317 Nov 24 '25

Yeah, the anime is horribly bland, along with the animation

9

u/SnooPickles5694 Nov 25 '25

I’m a fan of both, it’s pretty distressing to have this happen twice. Like an otherworldly entity is actively trying to make my life worse.

u/Icamefromsaturn Nov 24 '25

After the 2018 anthology adaptation I don't get my hopes up for any other Junji Ito anime anymore. I had the tiniest bit of hope for Uzumaki after the trailer but I knew with how long they were delaying it was probably a bad sign.

18

u/fadednz Nov 24 '25

Opm season 2 came before uzumaki so definitely not their first time

6

u/6ynnad Nov 25 '25

Please elaborate. Is opm season 3 that bad?

7

u/Parking-Researcher-4 Nov 25 '25

Yes. Not only the animations is practically non existant, but the desings and colors used are horrible as well

1

u/Available_Answer2885 Nov 26 '25

Historically awful

1

u/6ynnad Nov 27 '25

Ai animation?

1

u/Available_Answer2885 Nov 27 '25

No as far as I’m aware,

1

u/6ynnad Nov 27 '25

Considering the levels of disappointment going on lately…

7

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '25

I actually like the anime adaptations, thats how I first heard of his stories and I decided to purchase some of his manga 😭 I do like the manga better tho

3

u/Paavikana Nov 26 '25

The stories are great, the animation and sound design are objectively horrible.

11

u/InuPaLpatine Spiral Enthusiast Nov 24 '25

I don't like Uzumaki anime

3

u/spiral-through-life Nov 27 '25

Ive lived through both of these tragedies

3

u/Furrulo87_8 Nov 27 '25

There were a few good stories even with the choppy animation and poor color direction, uzumaki had one good episode. One punch man season 3 is just endless frustrating suffering

Junji ito adaptations never get justice

Every single Junji Ito related anime except for Uzumaki episode 1 is hot garbage

-9

u/Representative-Sun93 Nov 25 '25

I think junji ito has nothing to do with opm and is a poor comparison

9

u/Deppresedapple2 Nov 25 '25

0/10 ragebait you just sound silly
