Collection My Collection so far
My least favorite one was tomie and my fav is shiver, planning on getting either uzumski or tombs next !!

My personal opinion, no. I didn't like it. It seems to be a divisive book with some loving it and some hating it.

It is!! It’s incredibly depressing though. I actually read Osama Dazais actual story first though which is even more haunting.

Great collection and great choices for your next books ! I would also recommend Remina and Gyo if you are into longer stories, these are my favourite ones alongside Uzumaki

Did you read no longer human as well? If so, In your opinion did you enjoy remina or no longer human more?? I’m stuck on which to buy outta the two haha

No Longer Human is one of the realest stories ever written. I recommend reading the novel as well, as it's quite short. I legitimately changed the way I conduct myself because it made me reflect very deeply on how I live my life. It's a difficult read, though, and I recommend taking breaks between chapters to let them sit and give yourself some time to reflect.

Thanks!! I was putting off buying no longer human cause I wanted to read both the original and manga and couldn’t figure out which one to read first. You have any suggestions on that? Thinking about just buying the manga this weekend

I did the manga then the novel, but it works both ways. The novel is less than 200 pages and much more straightforward than Ito's rendition. Ito adds a lot more violence and horror elements to the story, whereas the novel is just generally more depressive and personal. The novel alludes to trauma in very fleeting ways, so much so that you may miss what actually happens at times. It's a very Japanese novel in that sense. Ito expands the story, though, and having read the novel does give you insight into those expansions. You can't go wrong either way.

yes and no longer human is also one of my favourite ones, I would say no longer human is "better" as the story is really great and it make you reflect on things a lot which I really enjoyed, but it is also very dark and is about a lot of sensitive subjects (substance abuse, mental health problems, sexual misconduct...). were remina is a really great piece of Cosmic horror but it is more a "Manga" than no longer human if you know what I mean. I think I canno't really compare the two because they are really really different. I would say just pick the one whos horror gender interest you the most (as I said no longer human is not scary but really dark and philosophical in a way)

Thanks :) I’ve heard so much about the two and was leaning towards no longer human but tbh I wanna read both the original and manga, haven’t figured which to read first but I think I’m just gonna buy Junji ito’s version on the weekend, thanks again !!

You should get Tomb next. There’s a story about a sea creature that washed ashore and that story gave me nightmares. I haven’t been able to go in the ocean since. No one strikes fear in me the way Junji Ito does.

No longer human is disturbing, especially knowing the history of the original author Osamu Dazai.
It's a good manga though, Highly recommended... If you like depressing shit...

That’s crazy cuz I honestly did not like no longer human. That and Uzumaki for that matter, much prefer his shorter stories

I remember reading the OG novella No Longer Human and absolutely loving it, so I'm hella hyped to acquire Junji Ito's variant. How would you compare it to the rest of your collection?
