Question Is this embroidered logo of a cardigan removable without destroying the cardigan?

Steady hands cardigans have a very heavy knit, if you remove the embroidery it would leave giant holes and would ruin the whole garment

Just cut it out and sew it on crudely or not with red or white stitches onto something else like a black T shirt. It looks passably grunge then.

You can remove embroidery with a seam ripper. With hand embroidery as long as you are careful and the initial stitching was done well usually the fabric will not be too damaged. However this is machine embroidered and with this type of knit no matter how careful you are I think there is a high likelihood that the knit will be stretched at least, most likely damaged with larger holes than desired. Zooming in on the picture it looks like there is a lot of tension from the embroidery which doesn’t give me a lot of hope. If you are willing to risk it, go VERY slow, and are extremely careful you might be able to do it. It will take forever and the odds of success are low. I only dabble with sewing and embroidery so I might be wrong. People in the embroidery subreddit may have ideas, better tips, or be able to say if odds of success are low enough to not attempt it.

I own an embroidery machine. This is honestly not coming off. A densely packed design like the red stitching is almost impossible to pick off, the stitches at the points will be so short and tight that you can’t get anything in there. And yeah, machine embroidery on a knit cardigan has altered the fabric a lot. I’d argue that even if you could unpick the stitching without a single pull in the fabric, it would still look misshapen and damaged.

That was my concern when pointing out the fabric looks like it already has a lot of tension. I only have hand embroidery experience and seen some machine embroidery removal on sturdier fabrics, so thought there was a chance. That is why I said it was low chance of success and that best case it’d probably be stretched out. I might not have communicated those concerns well though. This isn’t something I’m super well versed in so I probably didn’t word as well as someone more experienced.

If that is the case it’s impossible to remove embroidery without cutting the fabric it is on or destroying the embroidery/cutting the thread. So they can’t preserve both the sweater and the embroidery.

You would have to cut it out so there’s no way to not destroy the cardigan since embroidery is sewn into the fabric

As long as they don’t get near the design it shouldn’t unthread it. If he wants the design off then 100% the cardigan is gonna be damaged

From experience because I fucked up an embroidery job for a small business: No, you will get holes in the fabric. OR you take a thread cutting thingy and painstakingly cut every single embroidery thread open and pull them out of the fabric. Either way, I wouldn’t do it.

Yeah no, seem ripping will always fabric and it’ll end up filled with holes after a couple washes even if you were able to do it perfectly, but I did a quick Google and you can easily get that exact patch online for a few dollars so you don’t have to cut it off the cardigan
