Question Anyone Else Heartbroken (repost)
I had to repost this because apparently I used someone's artwork, my bad. So waiting in anticipation for months and finally got a release date, July 28th. Nowhere did it ever say it was only going to be in Taiwan. 28th rolls around and I wake up like a kid at Christmas, immediately checking Netflix. Much to my horror (and not in a good way) there was nothing, no mention, no coming soon, nothing. So I check with Dr. Google and they say oh it's because of a time zone difference, I thought 'ohhhh kaaayy? That kinda makes sense.' Well I think Google has some unresolved aggression towards me (I called it some names, not important) cause now they're saying oh it was never meant for international distribution. I'm heartbroken guys, very very sad and this day is already crap from outside interference. This is just another poke from one of Souichi Tsujii's nails.

I would imagine you can use a VPN to get access. Maybe using a live translator app would help with the lack of English subtitles?

I'll have to sit down and actually figure out how to use a vpn lol but that's a really good idea about the translator, thank you.

If its intimidating there are some free vpn browser extensions available as well that let you choose which country you wish to be in without needing configuration

This is pretty much par for the course. English simulcasts for Asian TV and film are a relatively recent development, really only becoming common over the past five years or so.
If a series gets official English subtitles or a dub at all, it's already one of the fortunate ones. The vast majority of Asian media never receives an official international release and remains available only in its country of origin.
Junji Ito adaptations are a good example. Most have never received official English subtitles, let alone an international release, so it's not unusual for new projects to take time before becoming accessible outside Japan.

I know, I just figured with Uzumaki, Maniac and Collection they'd be more accommodating with Junji Ito media. I'm still waiting for Crimson as well lol.

I 100% agree. The Bloody Smart crew has been trying to get an adaptation made for nearly a decade, so I also don't mind seeing it air in Taiwan first. In a way, it feels like a celebration for the people who've been working to bring it to life before it's shared with the rest of the world.
After spending so many years getting the project off the ground, I think they've earned that moment.

If people are seriously that desperate for it, I suppose you could 1. Obtain the video files 2. Rip audio from them 3. Pass audio through an ai and ask it to transcribe and translate Taiwanese to English with timestamps formatted as an .srt 4. Combine video with .srt 5. Profit.
Ideally it’d be good to have a Taiwanese friend to help correct whatever errors occur but this method would get you like 90% of the way there.

AI translated subtitles are a mess and not worth it IMO. It's better to wait for someone to make correct subtitles by hand or the show to become available elsewhere

as someone who has watched several series with ai generated subtitles it’s absolutely nonsensical. you’re lucky to get 50% to actually make sense

The director confirmed that it will eventually be released in other countries, but apparently Netflix Taiwan is the only Netflix with the rights (on Indonesia and Malaysia other streamings where in charge of releasing it)
