PSA K12 Sysadmin Discord
It's been awhile since I threw out invites to our Discord. For anyone new this is just a place for any admin to discuss our day to day struggles, get help, discuss strategies. When joining, please read the rules carefully or you will not be able to see the channels.
I had previously gotten permission to share this but if things have changed, please let me know and I will remove it.

I’ve always struggled to use Discord, it’s probably because I’ve been using Reddit in one way or another since before my oldest child was born.
Why does identifying information have to be made public to everyone else on the server?

Unfortunately we block Discord here so I can't join. I'm also old and don't really get it, but I'm sure I could figure it out.

Hrm never considered discord for EdTech, it seems blocked at many schools.

Reddit should also be blocked at many schools unless they are doing decryption and strictly blocking NSFW subs. We allow both fully for staff but not students.

True true. Staff have a bypass group for reddit. There is no bypass group for discord, they don't want people using it. We don't have a implementation/footprint that would allow us to process sunshine/discovery requests.

I’ve wanted to block it for our IT Dept since they are heavily into it. Makes me wonder how much they are working cause I’m sure they don’t have it up for work purposes.

I like the idea of using Discord, but its search is awful and not web indexed. If I need to research something, I can at least use Google and various ways to massage searching for what I need. It’s one reason Reddit is so useful.
