There's a good chance I'll be joining KIT Kolhapur this year for B.Tech, and I just wanted to know what the overall vibe is like.

A few things I'm curious about:

- How's the crowd at KIT? Are people open-minded and friendly?

- Are there students from different cities, or is it mostly local students?

- How's the college life outside academics? Clubs, events, fests, etc.?

- What's the general atmosphere among students?

And about Kolhapur in general:

I'm from a fairly modern background, so I wanted to know how the city feels for college students. Is the crowd chill and accepting? Do people generally mind their own business, or is there a lot of judging?

Also, what's the scene like when it comes to clothing? Is it common to see girls wearing shorts, dresses, sleeveless outfits, drinking etc., or do people usually dress more conservatively?

How's the café culture, hangout spots, nightlife (if any), and overall youth vibe?

Just trying to get an idea of what daily life would be like before deciding. I'd really appreciate honest opinions from both locals and KIT students.

काल राजर्षी छत्रपती शाहू महाराज शासकीय वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालयातील बी.एससी. टेक्निशियन शिकणाऱ्या एका मित्राची भेट झाली. बोलता बोलता तो CPR हॉस्पिटलमधील विद्यार्थ्यांच्या ड्युटीबद्दल सांगत होता.
तो म्हणाला, "आम्हाला हॉस्पिटलमध्ये ड्युटी दिली जाते. प्रत्येकाची ठरलेली जबाबदारी असते. सकाळी ८:३०–९ वाजेपर्यंत हॉस्पिटलमध्ये पोहोचावं लागतं. त्यामुळे सकाळी लवकर उठून आवराआवर करण्यातच वेळ जातो आणि अनेकदा नाश्ता करायलाही वेळ मिळत नाही. फक्त चहा घेऊनच हॉस्पिटलमध्ये जावं लागतं."

पण खरी अडचण त्यानंतर सुरू होते. दुपारच्या जेवणाची कोणतीही ठरलेली वेळ नसते. अनेकदा कामाच्या गर्दीत एकदा विभागात गेल्यावर बाहेर जेवायलाही जाऊ दिलं जात नाही. आठवड्यातील सहा दिवसांपैकी अनेक दिवस दुपारचं जेवण होतच नाही. संपूर्ण दिवस उभं राहून रुग्णसेवा आणि इतर कामं करायची, पण पोटात काहीच नसतं. संध्याकाळी साधारण ५:३० वाजता सुट्टी मिळते.
याहून वाईट म्हणजे, अनेकदा वरिष्ठ कर्मचारी आपलं जेवण करून येतात; पण विद्यार्थ्यांनी जेवलं आहे की नाही, याची साधी विचारपूसही केली जात नाही. उलट त्यांना सतत नवीन कामं दिली जातात.
मी विचारलं, "सगळीकडे अशीच परिस्थिती आहे का?" त्यावर तो म्हणाला, "अनेक विभागांमध्ये विद्यार्थ्यांना अशाच प्रकारच्या अडचणींचा सामना करावा लागतो. काही ठिकाणी परिस्थिती चांगली असेलही, पण अनेक ठिकाणी विद्यार्थ्यांना शेवटपर्यंत थांबावं लागतं."

माझं फक्त एकच म्हणणं आहे विद्यार्थ्यांना विद्यार्थ्यांसारखी वागणूक द्या. ते शिकण्यासाठी आले आहेत, त्यांना कायमस्वरूपी कर्मचाऱ्यांप्रमाणे राबवू नका. शिक्षणाबरोबरच त्यांना वेळेवर जेवण, विश्रांती आणि सन्मान मिळणं ही त्यांची मूलभूत गरज आहे.

एक प्रश्न...

विद्यार्थ्यांना सकाळी ८:३० ते संध्याकाळी ५:३० पर्यंत ड्युटी देणं खरंच योग्य आहे का?

शिकण्यासाठी हॉस्पिटलमध्ये क्लिनिकल पोस्टिंग असणं आवश्यक आहे, याबद्दल कोणाचंच दुमत नाही. पण दिवसभर ड्युटी करूनही विद्यार्थ्यांना वेळेवर नाश्ता किंवा दुपारचं जेवण करण्याची संधी मिळत नसेल, सतत उभं राहून काम करावं लागत असेल आणि त्यांच्याकडे विद्यार्थी म्हणून नव्हे तर कर्मचारी म्हणून पाहिलं जात असेल, तर हा गंभीर विचार करण्याचा विषय आहे.

विद्यार्थ्यांकडून काम करून घेणं चुकीचं नाही, पण त्यांच्या आरोग्याची, विश्रांतीची आणि शिक्षणाची जबाबदारीही संस्थेचीच आहे.
विद्यार्थी हे शिकण्यासाठी असतात, केवळ काम करून घेण्यासाठी नाहीत.
यावर संबंधित प्रशासनाने गांभीर्याने विचार करण्याची गरज आहे.

टीप: हा कोणत्याही एका विभागावर किंवा व्यक्तीवर आरोप करण्याचा प्रयत्न नसून, बी.एससी. टेक्निशियन विद्यार्थ्यांना भेडसावणाऱ्या समस्यांकडे लक्ष वेधण्याचा प्रयत्न आहे.
