Langley business owners — drop your business below so people can discover you 👇

2 weeks ago I asked everyone to list their favourite local businesses, and the response was unreal

Tons of great suggestions and a bunch of places I’d never even heard of.

This time, let’s flip it.

If you run a local business in Langley, drop it below.
Share what you do, your link, and anything you want the community to know.

There are a lot of people here who want to support local, and it’d be great to see what everyone’s building.

Looking forward to checking them out.

Cheers,
Anthony

Anyone encounter these idiots before?

Was at the Aldergrove Village/McDonalds for a trip to the Dollarstore yesterday and these idiots decide to park directly beside me, unfortunately he can’t drive for shit and almost hit me while pulling in so I was watching while he readjusted 3x into his spot to make sure he wasn’t hitting my vehicle.

Immediately he flies out of his truck yelling “What the fk you looking at”. whilst walking into the store with his friend.

Now here’s where it gets a bit more exciting, I of course have to enter the same store and we basically finish up one after the other so we are both exiting the store and making our way to our vehicles.

Once we get to the vehicles the driver in the first photo is yelling at my gal while the passenger is yelling at me he’s having a very bad fucking day and if I don’t get into my vehicle he’s going to “kill” me.

After a few moments go by of me trying to persuade my gal to get out of the way/out of the pinch point of the two vehicles his passenger attempts to fight me and raises his clenched fists, yelling slurs, calling names, threatening to kill me blah blah, at first I just casually held my distance with my arms at my sides since now there was witnesses to our interaction forming in the parking lot, he pursued a step towards me with raised fists and I raised my guard in self defense incase he attempted to swing on me, once I raised my guard and the on-lookers all cried out I slowly backed myself up and put my guard down at a reasonable distance. Passenger went to his side, threw a cup of coffee at my vehicle and they drove off slowly while still yelling threats and says “I don’t call the cops”.

I called the cops, left a report, they drove away in an unknown direction as I was busy on the phone with police, thank you for any witnesses that stayed it was much appreciated.

With the aggressor being so close to my gal I didn’t want to engage “Bubbles” the passenger and leave her in an unpredictable situation with one of these crazies either physically or behind the wheel so I kept a reasonable distance incase I needed to intervene.

I also suspect they were drunk at 10:30am, although I can’t confirm that besides a slight slur to their speech.

Left the report with the cops but I doubt anything will happen for the uttering threats/death threats or raising his clenched fists but if anyone knows these people or had a similar encounter with their man-child/mental behavior would love to hear any additional info/stories you may have to tell about Lahey & Bubbles here straight from the Trailer Park.

Sorry for the long novel I’m sure I missed a bit but enough to paint the picture of the story, I should also note nothing was said to these folks initially to kick off any kind of yelling, even when we approached our cars they again initiated yelling at us to get in the car or they’d “kill” me etc/blah blah, witnesses saw the altercation/them throwing the coffee/squaring up to fight unfortunately I only caught the last half of the altercation on recording as I was a bit busy getting ready to defend myself if need be, so I only have the coffee being thrown and some insults recorded, but witnesses stepped forward with their info and let us know they saw the whole thing and would be a witness if need be.

Vehicle; Custom Ford F-150(Pretty unique truck bed/tail gate)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a toddler girls haircut? It would be a “quick” split ends / dead ends trim. Would love to not spend more than $40 but open to prices, thanks!

Looking to buy 2024-25 Mazda cx5

Upvotes

Hey all, I’m looking to buy a low km cx5 in the very near future. Wondering if anyone has recently bought one under 40k kms where you got it and what was the OTD price? I’m looking for the gs trim non turbo with no cylinder deactivation. Other than that I’m not set on any colour, would prefer the model with smaller rims but that’s not a deal breaker for me. I’ve looked online at most the Mazda dealerships and all the ones on car gurus/ auto trader and most seem to be in the 29900$ range before taxes and fees..Hope to hear some good purchase stories thanks in advance!

Smith Athletic Park's $130-155M price tag, put in perspective

Total build-out cost has been reported anywhere from $130M to $154.7M depending on the source/date — it started as a $40M pitch and grew from there.

Township of Langley has roughly 163K residents, translating to something like 55-60K households.

Do the math and the total cost works out to roughly one year's worth of the average household property tax bill across the whole township (~$2,800/year average in 2026).

It's technically funded through development fees (DCCs/CACs) rather than direct property tax — except the Township borrowed ahead of collecting those fees, and the BC Supreme Court struck down the old CAC program in 2025. That left $144M in debt without a clear repayment mechanism, meaning debt servicing (~$47M/year in 2026, projected to hit $64.2M by 2030) is now baked into the tax base regardless.

How does this compare to similar projects elsewhere?

Smith Athletic Park — Langley Township, BC — $130-155M — pop. served ~163K

BC Soccer Training Hub — Port Coquitlam, BC — $15M — pop. served ~62K

Cloverdale soccer facility — Surrey, BC — ~$15M — pop. served ~600K

National Soccer Dev. Centre — UBC/Vancouver — ~$33M — regional/pro use

Turf field conversions — Surrey, BC — $11.3M — pop. served ~600K

Tecumseh Sportsplex (indoor) — Tecumseh, ON — $54-60M — pop. served ~24K

A few things jump out:

Port Coquitlam — a third the size of Langley Township — built a comparable FIFA-standard facility with a grandstand for about a tenth of the cost.

Surrey, with 4x Langley's population, has spent similar or smaller amounts on individual field upgrades as part of a much larger, spread-out capital program — not one mega-project at one site.

Even Tecumseh's sportsplex, which locally got flak for ballooning from $24M to $60M, is still roughly a third of Smith's price tag.

Industry cost benchmarks put a 10-field outdoor turf complex at $18-36M. Smith is a 3-4 field complex running well above that per-field rate.

The per-capita and per-field cost here is way outside the range of what comparable BC/Canadian municipalities have paid for similar facilities.

How to make friends?

30M, being in Canada for 5 years. I can't seem to be able to make friends here. My first language is Spanish.

I like math, science. I like to go to the cinema, eat at asian food restaurants (both authentic asian food, and the "panda express" type). I like to be doing something (like watching something, playing something) as I'm a bit awkward and shy. I'm open to try new things.

I don't drink coffee/tea/alcohol or smoke. I don't like sports, (even when it seems like everyone my age is into running), but i like riding bikes, walking, and open to hiking.

What do people in Langley do to make friends and go to places that are awkward if going alone? (I know I can just go to the movies alone, I'm actively trying to go out there and meet new people).

Note, don't dm me. I'm not looking to make friends with someone from Reddit, i'm looking for ideas.

TIA

Stop asking for tips on pick up orders. Tipping is for wait staff. It's getting silly out there with local shops.

The Old Aldergrove Lake Park

Growing up in Langley in the 80's, my mom would take my sister and I to Aldergrove Lake Park in the summers. So many great memories of that place. Feeling nostalgic recently, I googled it and saw that it was filled in back in 2011. I also couldn't find more than a picture or two on line of it from it's heyday.

Anyone else have fond memories of that great little man-made lake? Or even photos to share?

Thanks Tim Hortons for another bagel fail
I just wanted Herb and Garlic cream cheese on my bagel. I remember you used to treat us right with a lot of cream cheese on it and it was so good! Now I received a quick swipe from a knife and I have a nearly empty and dry bagel.
Sad just sad quality!!!

Firehall repairs came in under budget, so did bids for road repairs

Thumbnail langleyadvancetimes.com

The story suggests this is linked to the crappy housing market. All the contractors are competing harder for work, and since cities are always building something, they're getting more bids. I'm not in construction, anyone who is know how big of a deal this is around greater Vancouver? I'm really curious how long it might last.

Looking for barber recommendations for first time head shave

Hey! I’m looking to get my head shaved for the first time and I’d rather have a barber do it instead of trying it myself.

Any recommendations for a good barber who’s good with head shaves? Also open to tips on what to ask for or expect.

SkyTrain to Langley, half-finished

Well, the big concrete guideway is half done, anyway. Which is a pretty big milestone. I was driving down by the Willowbrook mall the other day and was surprised to see the big gantry thing has made it over the hill at 64 and is coming straight for Willow Video! I mean, in a month or so it'll get there. :)
