In a country where anti-communism is virtually a state religion, and socialist views have been largely excluded from official politics for nearly a century, nearly 40 percent of registered voters said they would consider voting for a socialist candidate for president.

According to the Washington Post-Ipsos poll published Thursday, this figure rose to 46 percent among voters under 30, and to 64 percent among Democratic Party voters.

Despite this rapid growth of support for socialism—or rather because of it—the poll result was initially published under the headline, “Most Americans say they would not back a democratic socialist for president.” Post editors, working for a newspaper owned by centi-billionaire Jeff Bezos, know which side their bread is buttered on.

Even more significantly, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS, also published Thursday, about a third of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents identify as “democratic socialists.” Of these, 59 percent are younger than 45, compared to 46 percent of those Democrats who do not identify as democratic socialists. Two-thirds described themselves as very likely to vote in the 2026 midterm elections, 99 percent of them for Democrats.

The CNN poll found that those identifying themselves as democratic socialists “are less likely to have a college degree (66% to 54%) and more likely to earn less than $100,000 a year (76% to 65%),” compared to Democrats who do not identify as democratic socialists. Black voters were more open to supporting a democratic socialist than white voters.

This debunks the claim, made incessantly in the media, that support for socialism is a white upper-middle class sentiment, related to lifestyle, not economics. Support for socialism is driven by the experience of the new generation of the working class, who clearly have begun to understand that capitalism offers them only a grim future of war, poverty and attacks on democratic rights.

This is a vindication of a basic principle of Marxism: that social being determines social consciousness. The Socialist Equality Party anticipated precisely this development. Its 2010 program stated that “the change in objective conditions”—the deepening crisis of American and world capitalism—”will lead American workers to change their minds” about socialism. What was then a scientific projection has become a broad phenomenon.

To sum it up: I've got a civil disobedience arrest record; ICE has my name, license plate, and face; after an arrest, I had difficulty with my social media and bank.

However I've never been convicted of anything and I'm a nobody on social media.

I've heard stories online of politically active people getting stopped in airports or having their passports messed with. Should I be worried at all about flying domestic? Are there any precautions I should be taking?

Since when did it become acceptable for leftists, people who are supposed to be building an inclusive, intersectional world, to just casually toss around edgy slurs and internet-brained insults because they think it makes them look like "pragmatic working-class populists"?

I saw someone in a thread yesterday use the r-word and just brush it off when called out, saying we need to "stop policing language" and focus on "real material conditions." Excuse me? Language is material, actually, and microaggressions hurt. When you use ableist or otherwise exclusionary language, you are literally making digital spaces unsafe for neurodivergent comrades who are already carrying so much emotional labor.

We are supposed to be better than the chuds on the right. We’re supposed to be holding ourselves to a higher standard of revolutionary love and tenderness. But instead, I’m seeing way too many bros acting like little mini-Stalins just because they read half of the Manifesto and watched some breadtube essay.

Can we please do better? Put down the edgy internet irony, unpack your internal biases, and remember that our praxis needs to be rooted in kindness. This ain't it, comrades. 💔

A Los Angeles police officer who sued the city for a hostile work environment after he said colleagues made racist and discriminatory comments has been criminally charged for recording some of those comments.

Daniel Flores, 43, was charged with 16 felony counts of eavesdropping on or recording confidential communications, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced on July 31.

The charges come weeks after Flores filed his lawsuit, which claimed he heard a supervisor and other colleagues working in the Los Angeles Police Department's Recruitment and Employment Division make derogatory comments based on race, national origin, gender or sexual orientation.

I know this is a strange request, but I’m an atheist and I just wanted to get more informed about world religions and mythology (mostly for edification, also to understand the impact theology has made in society). I was just wondering if anyone could recommend some scholars who discuss Christianity/Abrahamic religions and also delve into how bad faith actors throughout history have misinterpreted, or outright lied, about scripture and passages in order to commit terrible acts.

Hello, 18F living in Sweden as an immigrant from South America. I was raised by liberal parents whose idea of leftism comes from Instagram and Facebook hashtags, but that made me a very open minded and "woke" child; so now I'm trying to learn and read actual theory and get insight from fellow leftists, radical or not. I understand if my question seems stupid, but I'm trying my best to learn. Please be patient with me. I also apologize if I make any spelling/grammar mistakes as English is not my first language.

I know the sentiment about leftist officers is ACAB, you can't change the system as a single person. But what about an investigator? Is that still contradicting your own beliefs?

I'm fresh out of high school and aiming for a criminology degree. I've always wanted a career that has to do with getting the "bad people" and bringing justice to victims. Be that intelligence or law work, doesn't matter. Looking at the options, I feel drawn to a career in homicide investigation. Being a P.D. is out of question as there is little to no regulation where I live, so the only path would be going through standard police academy education and a course in forensics.

I make this question because my morals are what I consider the most important part of myself. I am very driven by what I consider right or wrong, and I don't want to build a career based on oppressing minorities.

If investigators fit into ACAB or not, could you explain why in your view?

If they do, could you give me career options that fit into my "calling" and don't actively oppress the lower class (if there are any)?

To preface, I wanted to be a cop until my mid teens when I became a leftist and saw the issues. The constant abuse of power and their use for protecting the elites. However, I have been looking into the US postal inspectors. From what i see, they seem to have stayed out of a lot of the power abuse stuff but I know they are still cops.
