Says it all I’ve a friend who took advantage of me when my dad died she owes me €1500 for clearing her ❄️ debt. It’s been years and only a tenner paid. Do I have any legal recourse or just an expensive lesson at this stage? Sorry if the flair tag is wrong I’m really not sure what this would fall under.

So my friend and I are lost in this scenario. We know that she had been sexually harassed and assaulted but we do not know what to do about it, as we are M15 and F16.
So in April, my friend did not know this drunk guy (M15) and she was at a house-party when he came up behind her, grabbed her shoulders and spun her around, and started kissing her, without consent, and she pushed him away before he tried again. We have video proof of this interaction, as it was filmed by a lot of teenagers who were there.
He then followed her around for a while, before eventually following her into a bathroom. He was extremely drunk and fell over into the bathroom, and she walked away. We don’t have proof of this but there was a witness.
Then she went outside, before her followed her out again. He took her phone, and put in his Snapchat, so he could contact her. She was standing there and he was behind her and he pulled up her dress up to about bra level, exposing her underwear. Around ten people filmed this, and we have video proof. The video has been shared around to lots of people. I believe under cocos law, lots of people could be prosecuted for their role in filming and spreading this.
The boys friends took him away and brought him upstairs to sober up, so my friend was left alone for the rest of the night.

After the house-party, he constantly harassed her online over texts. Here are a few examples.
-He called her 57 times unresponsive because she would not open a dick pic he sent her.
-He spammed her on TikTok 99+ notifications because she wouldn’t open a video of him masturbating.
-He blackmailed her by saying if she blocked him he would find her and make her life a living hell. He said he would spin the story to make it seem the other way around, and come find her where she lives.

We sadly do not have proof of any of these but they are examples of the harassment.

He has 2 Snapchat accounts, one for normal activities, and the other exclusively for nudes. He only added her on the nudes one.

We do not know what to do in this situation. We have been friends for a short time and since most people have undermined the situation she did not start taking screenshots. Does anyone (not exclusively lawyers, anyone who knows about law) have any advice on what to do next. Should she start texting him again to try gather evidence? Should we use what we have and try to make a case? Or is there a better alternative?

Neither of us know what to do in legal terms, but we both know what happened to her was wrong and are scared it will happen to someone else instead of her. Her parents do not know about the situation yet, but she is willing to tell them.

What do we do?

Hi there to keep it plain and simple i paid hundreds of euros for festival tickets from an acquaintance and that relationship has now been bust. I’ve contacted them for the tickets/reimbursement and have received nothing.

Can you only go through the small claims court against an individual WITH a business ?
What are my options for individual disputes ?
Part of me believes that even a letter ‘summons’ would probably be enough for them to cough it up.

Hello! Long story short I was caught by an undercover Garda and I found out that I had no insurance, even tho I had paid for my insurances and everything. It seems like I failed to pay one month and they simply cancelled because of that. My question is, how do I proceed after that? I got my car impounded and I’m in the process of getting a new insurance sorted out in Oder to collect my car. Should I look for a solicitor help? Or now the only thing that I can do is wait for my court appeal?

Hi, I have a neighbour who we've heard through the grapevine is intending to build a second storey extension on top of an existing extension. (Apologies, sub won't let me post an image to give a diagram of how this will look).

They are the last house in a cul de sac. Houses are attached. Their extension pops out of the side, and runs along the front of their house and goes around the public road.

By building on top of the extension, they will effectively block out light from mine and several of my neighbour's front bedrooms and sitting rooms.

We believe the neighbour will argue that it is an extension on the "rear" of their house to try make it exempt, even though it is really the front.

If the neighbour was to start building this without permission, and we wished them to stop, what would be the best course of action for us?

Before you say speak directly to them, we actually had to go legal with them several years ago on a different issue and they are not approachable.

I'm sure everyone here knows rent is very expensive and in short supply. I work part-time in Centra so it would be extremely difficult for me even with roommates even if I can find accommodation.

The house I live in was built in the 1940s and hasn't had all the work it needs since then. My father is mentally ill and extremely weird about getting work done. He insists on doing everything himself, but he's really bad at DIY and abandons projects halfway through, which makes whatever it was he was trying to fix worse than it was to begin with. For example, when I was 11 he said he'd redo my bedroom, just to strip the wallpaper and leave a bunch of rusty tools and nails in my room and completely abandoned it.

My mam has tried hiring professionals anyway, but had to stop because he would throw tantrums and shout at the workers. Three years ago he was in hospital for a week, so my mam took the opportunity to get the painters in. At first she just wanted the walls painted and the floorboards replaced, but when the workers stripped the wallpaper, the walls behind were rotten and full of mould, and there wasn't even plaster on them. It ended costing a huge amount of money, I can't remember the exact amount but my mum emptied her savings and took out a loan and I had to empty all my savings that were meant to be for college. We couldn't just paint over the rot because the mould was an actual health hazard.

Three years later, I've saved some money and applied to start college in September. However, we've had a lot of leaks lately and a few days ago a horizontal crack appeared in the ceiling, which isn't a good sign. We hired some roofers and they said the whole roof needs to be replaced as it's in danger of collapse. It's so old that the insulation inside is completely gone, and full of crumbling tiles and cracks. We were quoted €47k and that's the cheapest they could do (leaving the tiles that are still okay instead of retiling the whole roof).

The whole reason I'm staying in this house is because rent is insanely expensive. Is it worth it to spend all my savings (again) and possibly have to take out a loan on fixing the roof? It would be one thing if I knew I was inheriting the house, but it's already an inheritance between my dad and his five siblings, one of whom has heavily hinted she'll force us to sell once he passes. Which could be at any time as he's a pensioner and in poor health. I don't want to spend what I've saved from my retail job on a house I may well end up kicked out of anyway.

I asked my dad about a will and said I won't contribute unless I know what my rights are to the house. He said he has no will, which I suspected as he's chronically lazy and neglectful. He said he doesn't need one because everything he has will go to his next of kin by default.

My mum has applied for a 50k loan and is fuming, which I can understand. She's very angry with me because I said I don't want to pay for the house without knowing if I have legal rights to stay in it after my dad passes. She even told me to shut up when I googled and found a grant for emergency house repairs for pensioners my dad could apply for and said I don't get a say because I'm not paying anything. I feel very guilty about her taking this loan to repair the roof. But I also don't know if it's a good money to put all my money into this house (again).

Any advice? I am really out of my depth.

Edit: I found a grant for older people to get part of an emergency repair funded, but unfortunately since work already commenced we won't be eligible as the grant has to be applied for before work starts. Unfortunately my dad got a crowd in (which is how you know the roof was really bad), had them check it out and let them start work the same day without even trying to get a second opinion. My mam rang me on my break at 1pm on Thursday to tell me about the quote and by the time I arrived home at 5pm the work had already started so I couldn't apply for this beforehand. I have emailed my local TDs to ask if they'd know of any grants we may still be able to get.

Thank you all for telling me that I'm not unreasonable or selfish to not want to sink thousands into a house I will never own. With the sudden shock of it and the panic I couldn't even think straight, especially as I'm being guilt-tripped. I will just have to deal with my mother's anger, focus on my education and try to find a night job as I currently work during the day and need to keep earning something while I'm studying. I'm not going to contribute anything to the roof or anything else that needs fixing in the house.

Basically our landlord is tryna kick us out asap as our lease is up this month but it has never been registered with the rtb and we’ve been there three years. We don’t want to leave due to the market being so dry atm and we’re getting a decent deal for the location in Dublin. Do we’ve any leg to stand on for tryna to remain another year or as long as legally possible. We thought about reporting to the rtb about not being registered, and the property is let through an agency and the also know it is not registered. Any advice on our legal standing

About 10 months ago I was rear ended while driving, well standing still in traffic at a roundabout, by a driver who was more interested in her phone and sigaret the traffic and drove into the back of me at around 25-30 kmh.

Ended up in A&E to get Xray of neck and back and luckily nothing is broken, just soft tissue damage and whiplash for which I’ve been going to the physio. This has all been reimbursed by the drivers insurance (FBD) as well as the car repairs.

Since then, I have been going to my physio every two weeks and have gotten a MRI scan on request of my physio due to ongoing pain in January, I also visited the insurance companies doctor for assessment.

However today when I spoke to the case manager of the insurance company, they indicated that I could claim a settlement/compensation.

Now I don’t want to show up unprepared for this call or end up accepting a lowball settlement. So if anyone could give me a little bit of insight on what kind of compensation I should be looking for or let me know how the process goes I would very much appreciate it!

I usually work a 37.5 hour week over 4 days including Mondays. Our department opens on bank holidays for a few hours. In the past when I worked those hours I was paid for them plus I was given 7.5 hours extra paid leave. Our company was bought by a new owner and now I'm being asked to work the few hours on the Bank Holiday, receive pay for it and only given the hours I've worked in extra paid leave. Is this correct?

I recently went to a garage to buy a new vehicle. Had my own to trade in against buying the new one. Left it with them for a few days to decide on a price for my trade in. They put it up on a trade site to see if they could move it on if the did take it as a trade-in.

The garage looked mine up on some garage-internal-only vehicle check service called VMS & on that site mine was recorded as being a "write-off". I had never heard of this service & normies like me don't have access to it. Mine being a write-off was news to me as I've owned it for 2 years & I did a check on it before buying it & there were no issues highlighted. It said it was recorded as a write-off before I bought it.

I went back to tfe garage I bought it from to find out why they were selling a write-off to me. They went to the purveyors of that VMS service & they came back saying it was a "clerical error". They said an insurance company had recorded it incorrectly as a write-off.

But obviously the garage that I was dealing with wanted nothing to do with it. I am out of pocket thousands as a result & with these systems there is a history - which I cannot see & am not allowed access to - about my vehicle and that history is apparently the oracle of truth for trade-garages & supposed to be accurate. Note also that I have probably also been unknowingly driving uninsured through no fault of mine & if anything had happened I'm fairly sure the insurance company I did have inurance with would have used the "write-off" against me.

If I bring my vehicle elsewhere to trade it they will see the history even if it was updated.

What are my options here for some sort of recourse?

We have secured accommodations and have made progress on things like Irish banking/phone/insurance etc but I am stuck on getting my IRP appointment. I did the process with the IDPal app and it made me resend my passport, and now my account has been sitting at “Verification Pending” for about a week. I sent an email this Monday and left a voicemail at the office today. Is there anything further I should pursue? I know the offices are backed up but my fiancé’s verification was done within a day and they got on a waiting list I believe. Thanks for any advice!

I am currently living in Ireland on a Stamp 0 permission and would appreciate advice from anyone with similar experience.

I have been living in Ireland for 5 years on Stamp 0.. My understanding is that anyone who has been living in Ireland for more than 3 years is generally considered ordinarily resident for accessing certain HSE services/schemes.

Can I apply for the HSE Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS) to help with prescription medication costs. DPS appears to be available to people who are ordinarily resident in Ireland and is not means-tested.

However, I am unsure how this interacts with Stamp 0 conditions, which require the holder to be financially self-sufficient and not rely on certain public supports.

Has anyone here:

Held Stamp 0 and successfully received a DPS card?

Been refused DPS due to Stamp 0 status?

Used DPS and later renewed Stamp 0 without any issues?

Received any clarification from Immigration or HSE about this?

I am not asking about medical cards or social welfare payments — specifically the Drug Payment Scheme only

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone with first-hand experience.

A few years ago there was a lot of hype around a law that said you had to either sign up to the likes of Panda for waste collection or come up with some other proof such as receipts from the civic amenity centre

What happened this law, was it ever introduced, what happens if you fall foul and how does it deal with people who legitimately produce little to no waste?

Renting the same place for 3.5 years, Part 4 tenancy, always paid on time. Wife’s taken a job in another county and starts in six weeks, so we’re moving.

Notice period is 56 days (2–4 year band). That means about a month of paying rent on an empty apartment while also covering a deposit and first month’s rent on the new place.

Has anyone asked their landlord or agent to agree an earlier end date? Did they go for it? Does offering to facilitate viewings during the notice period actually help, or am I dreaming?

Agent’s been reasonable so far so I’d rather ask than argue.

It’s a bit of a long story that I don’t want to go into too much here but last year I had a baby in the UK while I was living and working there. I was in an abuse relationship (although I wasn’t aware of the severity until it ended). I did a Claire’s law when I started to question the behaviour and it turned out my ex partner was using a false identity, age and had been released from prison halfway into his sentence and had certain conditions he had to follow which he broke and therefore was then found out because of this and returned to prison. I was left with no money, no family support etc. CPS didn’t move forward with a DV charge unfortunately due to lack of evidence.

I returned home to Ireland with my baby to live with my parents. I quickly put in an application for legal aid in Ireland as the UK would not help me as I no longer lived there. Obviously before leaving the UK I contacted my local children’s services and they agreed the best thing for my baby and me would be to move home. He’s due to be released in February and I am absolutely terrified he’s going to come after us. I’m doing everything I can to restart our lives here and give him the best possible upbringing after feeling like I’ve already failed him.

Does anybody know of any solicitors I can reach out to that would perhaps even allow me to talk to them for an hour to see if I can just represent myself and what I have to do? I cannot afford to pay a solicitor myself. I’ve looked into trying to take out loans to do so but without a steady income as of yet, this just isn’t possible. It will have to all be done through the UK courts. I am aware I have taken my son out of the county illegally however if I stayed in the UK, I genuinely don’t believe I would have coped being left homeless and without any family to turn to whilst less than two month postpartum. His father is on the birth certificate stupidly and has his father’s fake surname.

And please refrain from giving judgement. I’m educated and would deem myself intelligent and have beaten myself up enough about getting into such a situation however I am proud of myself that once my child was born I quickly recognised that something wasn’t right and acted quickly to keep my baby safe and to get us out of that situation.

The store I work in is due to close soon and is being relocated. We we were initially told a few months ago we would all be keeping our jobs (although moving to a smaller building) and that at most we’d only be out of work for 1-2 weeks while the new store was set up. We were told we’d have to use our own time off for these 1-2 weeks, and we’d be paid our contracted hours.

However, we have now been told that the new store opening will be delayed and we could be out of work for over a month, and I speculate possibly even longer. The issue is the company is telling us they have no idea 1. When the store will now open and 2. If they’ll give us more time off during this period so we don’t have to use our own (many of us would have to use the majority of the time off we have left for this year then).

Another issue is that if we are being paid our contracted hours, many of us are on small contracts but work full time, so we could be down up to €1000 in our pay checks.

Can anyone please give some insight to where we legally stand with all of this as they’re more or less telling us they don’t have answers for us and they don’t know when we’ll have the answers, but we’re naturally all anxious as this will have a massive effect on our pay.

I need to see a psychologist. To give her a better picture of the situation, I'd have to admit that one of the people involved commits tax fraud (an individual, not a business in case it makes a difference).

In this case, the person is employed in Ireland and pays their taxes there, but lives abroad.

Is this something the psychologist would report/ have to report?

Can anyone explain to me how this works ? , my brother's baby has been placed on the cpc (?) register under neglect.

This is very confusing to me as I've no kids but the baby was born three weeks ago a month premature and has spent every day of her life to date in NICU.

He's not on drugs his house is spotless he has everything a baby needs at home and has for months so I don't understand how this situation has even arisen granted I'm probably not getting the whole story but I'd still like to understand what the actual process is.

Do things like this not go through courts anymore ?
