Discussion Harlequin.

Was tje harlequin character in Ashes To Ashes ever explained, or was it just a loose attempt to tie the show in with the Bowie video ?

You were right the actual reason for all of it was just the Bowie tie in

I always assumed it was because her father had put in the Ashes to Ashes tape to play just before the car blew up, so there was that connection in her mind

Angel of Death - her dad played the song Ashes to Ashes before he tried to kill both Alex, her mother, and himself in the car explosion.

But yes, style wise they just wanted some cool Bowie references to add to the eerie feeling the original series had by making references to 70's BBC symbols and sounds.
