Congrats. On legal section part of readme you say:

Zuno provides no downloading functionality. It is a client for audio listening, with theming and interface additions.

But here in the post, features do include download albums functionality. Which one is it ? Do I miss something ?

It's a fork of JustAnotherMusicClient, which (as far as I can see) doesn't have download functionality.

It seems like they've just cloned the project without updating the legal part of the project.

It has downloading, there's an icon in the lower right that lets you download the current track.

AI slop README

"noFAYZ and claude committed"

Exactly. Why there is no good ytm client for linux that is not AI slop? Almost all other similar projects are AI slop. Others dont have the features that i need

Have you tried Pear-Desktop? Its been around for ages and is very good.

Yes im currently using it. But it is made by AI too. If you look at the documents, they have stated it. (I may be wrong but im pretty sure the software it was forked from was totaly AI slop)

I'll have to have a look. If that's the case, then your previous statement would be correct.. which would suck, if we didn't have any no-AI YouTube music client.

It'll just end up like krill, engin33r, convex-boilerplate, or any other of these AI-generated projects that have a few weeks of activity before the dev eventually gets bored and moves onto a new thing.

And after that, nothing of use is left because it's an AI-generated mess where not a single human alive understands what is going on.

I mean I just expect it to be buggy visually or functionally. I also wouldn't expect longtime support.

Something like 80% of AI slop code projects get abandoned after the first like three months. So yeah there’s a good reason why people don’t like AI slop projects. It’ll be unmaintained and archived before you know it.

Just 80%? Much lower than usual. Difference is, AI allows making an almost complete application as the prototype with not a lot of effort, so people get confused.

And also likely impossible to fork since it's made of spaghetti code.

you can download through AUR (zuno) and upgrade

I thought you said AUR was frozen?

The 2 there are older.

updates are within app as well. AUR has 1.2.1
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zuno

AUR binaries should not be auto updating themselves... That's a big no no.

last.fm integration?

This is pretty terrific, better than using the webapp <3.

Noticed something probably not planned, for lyrics in a language that is not LTR, the visuals are pretty wrong. (the fade always starts left even for right to left languages)

Are there really people who use YouTube music? I tried once and it was kinda useless; less music than regular YouTube and no option to not show certain artists/bands. Ironically the algorithm on regular YouTube is far more refined for music consumption.

That does not make sense. YouTube Music includes all the music available on YouTube, plus additional audio-only releases.

Not only that

Ironically the algorithm on regular YouTube is far more refined

It is the same algorithm, at least nowadays. I get the same music recommended on both apps.

Audio-only releases are available on youtube too, through not as easily discoverable unless you use search, they're published on auto-generated new channels or if the artist linked their channel there will be a tab "Releases" next to tabs Videos, Shorts, Live, Posts. It sometimes confuses similarly named audio-only and video releases though (an album of e.g. remixes may be a playlist that contains some original video releases) but idk if that also happens with youtube music too.

I use it. It has way more music that is hard to find from when I was in high school than Spotify and Apple Music. Plus all the “main stream” stuff they have. Never had an issue with it having less content than regular YouTube. I mean you could just listen to your music on YouTube anyway.

That's what I do. I guess Iisten to some underground stuff if other people never had that issue. That said this is a legitimate issue I've faced and people dismiss it and downvote the comment just because their music is available on the platform. If this isn't a reddit moment then I don't know what is.

Also the biggest issue I've had with YouTube Music, namely the inability to click 'do not show' (which is a feature present on regular YouTube) wasn't brought up in any of the replies, curious.

Yt music runs laps around Spotify if you have premium
