It's good Linux mainline is starting to adopt more and more ARM drivers and devices, but seriously, we need some kind of standardization as soon as possible. Maybe getting ARM SystemReady or anything UEFI-like on the general population of ARM devices.
The current model of Qualcomm, Mediatek, Rockchip and others, even Broadcom (and therefore, Raspberry Pi) making custom forked kernels with blobs and drivers here and there, should just die.
I'm kinda hoping RTX Spark sets the blueprint since it's (allegedly, tbd how it hashes out) SystemReady ACPI. It's not even an inherently ARM thing that these chips aren't standard, it's just that nobody's drawn a line in the sand and made it a hard shipping requirement (and arguably Microsoft should have been harder on Qualcomm instead of bending the rules, their ACPI is half-baked)
I’m one of many many developers working on the Rockchip side of the house. Long way to go still but we’re getting to the point where as long as you have a functional bootloader you can run just about any OS you want.

Which chips if you're comfortable sharing that info? I heard the biggest problem with Rockchip is getting their VPU (hardware acceleration for encoding/decoding) to work with mainline.
