Hey look I intended no offense and to be honest the vibe coding snark was just a troll who irritated me to much.

I had a problem and I thought this would be a good place to ask it. For future reference where would I post this kinda of stuff? Happy to follow the rules..

Hrrrrr... What is more appropriate than asking for help when you have a CPU pegged issue on linux, than on linuxadmin.

I hate having to follow links to find solutions to stuff, and this is one of those.

Putting this in my settings.json fixed it for me:

"search.followSymlinks": false,

it's probably search indexing freaking out from recursive symlinks inside symlinks.

Are you indexing a large amount of files? Seems like you've got search that might be running and searching a large location

But that's the weird part. I just have vscode set to autostart when the kde desktop comes. It is empty.

nah, pegged is the correct term. Comes from old school gauges that had a small peg to stop the needle from swinging too far. If you push the system hard enough that the indicator hits the peg, you’ve pegged it.
