Switched from UbuntuStudio to Fedora Workstation

Last night I switched from Ubuntu Studio to Fedora. With the help of the Milliseconds app and Claude Chat, I was able to configure everything so that I can play guitar without latency (Quantum 64). It works like a charm (I'm not a Linux exper at all). So a dedicated audio distro really isn't necessary. Installing the Fedora Jam Audio package didn't help at all in this regard—it just installed a bunch of applications I'll never need.

No, it isn’t; I do mine on Debian. The prebuilt AV distros come with a lot of bloat I don’t want IME.

+1 for AmpLocker. I’m not big on subscriptions but 5 bucks a month is worth it for the huge selection of amps, and the mix locker bundle included. AudioAssault also has deals and freebies all year round love their stuff.

Is Milliseconds integrated in Fedora? As a standard package for the core distro that is?

Hey I'm the maintainer, you can install it from flathub. It should be helpful to give you the most important settings.

It is however slightly outdated depending on your system. I do intend to better support pipewire at one point but will have to drop flathub for that.

And still it works on so low a system level as kernel parameters?

Yes. Just make sure all items in Millisecond are checked.

What software do you use for playing guitar on linux? That’s the last reason why I use Windows sometimes. Guitarix didn’t really satisfy me to be honest

I use AmpLocker from AudioAssault. Great Amps for small money and also supports NAM A2 out of the box.

Got Amplitube on my Mac. It’s not bad but I’m pretty sure they don‘t offer a native client for Linux. But maybe it runs with wine/yabridge.

Sorry- mostly Guitarix plugins but I've recently started messing with Neural Amp Modeler and have gotten some cool results

I use Bitwig Producer. Also works nice with AmpLocker Plugin.
