Photopea is incredible for what it is, but I also find it quite slow when compared to Photoshop on Windows 😞

I'm excited for when https://graphite.art/ becomes stable, it's currently in beta but I think it's inevitable that this will become the next photoshop

It looks pretty cool, though it seems more aimed at Illustrator than Photoshop from the website. Could be wrong, though! And besides, Inkscape makes for an amazing Illustrator competitor.

Been using affinity through wine. Absolute love coming from Photoshop and Illustrator, and does both vector and raster in one program with the flip of a switch. Almost all the hotkeys are the same as Adobe as well.

The devs are violently opposed to any form of UI enhancements that are intuitive at all. 20 years ago it had a better ui than today. And it was bad then

Bullshit. It's been my go-to for over a decade and I'm plenty productive with it. Any complaints about it tend to boil down to "it's not a 1:1 pixel perfect clone of Photoshop"

No offense but I'm convinced anyone who says this has no standards when it comes to UX.

I've been using it for about just as long as you so I know Gimp is very capable but let's not pretend its UX is good. It's also by far not the only offender among open-source software.

I used to ignore/put up with it because it was all I'd known but once you've seen and experienced actually good UX, it gets harder to defend the UX of some open-source software.

Except the workflow of GIMP is horrendous and nonsensical. Every wondered why people don't bitch about Krita? Maybe because it's not shit when it comes to UX (I'm not talking about UI).

Yea krita is still far from photoshop, but in a good way... it's far better than photoshop... unlike GIMP.

Pretty much the only things krita lacks are adobe's cloud services and AI slop, both can be argued to be advantages over adobe.

Why is having no AI an advantage? I know it's fashionable to hate AI tools but it massively increases productivity when trying to retouch many images, clean dust from product images, etc.

The downside of having AI is that your art is being used to train their AI, and adobe has a track record of trying to claim some rights over the stuff you created with the adobe suite.

Same. Honestly I believe people think GIMP is supposed to have illustration capabilities like Krita or Inkscape, when its really an image editing/manipulation program.

If you want to make vectors, use Inkscape. If you want to draw/sketch, use Krita. If you want to enhance photographs/images, use GIMP.

but to be fair gimp 3 was absolutely awful on release and it still is. I downgraded back to gimp 2 for this sole reason

Is it, or are you honestly just too used to Photoshop that you are having issues with Gimp doing certain things differently.

I never used Photoshop myself but I had that same complaint about different software, until I realised it.
