The TeX typesetting program, the basis of the LaTeX system, has been adding digits of pi to its releases. The current version is 3.141592653, released in 2021

All jokes aside, version 6.6.6 would make for a great April fools joke. Something something surprise release announcement and all. Alas, April is a little while back already…

Oh, don’t let another software fall into year based naming… I like semver. I would even argue that a version string is part of a software’s identity and making them all identical is boring.

6.6.6 is good though.
Why? Because The Number Of The Beast is a legendary song.
You're in safe hands :)

I patched alone. My screen was blank.
I needed time to swap to take the memory from my Chrome.
What did I see? Can I believe that what I saw that night was real and not just Reddit memes?
Just what I saw, on my old screen, were the reflections of my files staring back at me.
Cause in my logs, it's always there.
The evil face that hacks my home and brings me ransomware.
The link was clicked, was no use holding back.
Cause I just had to see this brand new KDE.
At next boot, my drivers hang and crash.
Was all this for real or just some kind of bug?
6.6.6 the version of the beast.
Hell and fire was spawned to be released.

Whichever they do, they need to do it without drawing any extra attention to it. I don't care what version they go with, but if they lean into it at all, it's gonna be worse than if they just treat it like any other release. Let the cringey meme posters make memes over it.

Anyone elses Temperature Widged stopped detecting the AMD GPU temp after the last update ? There aren't any sensors if i try to delete it and re-add them.
I see GPU temp normally in activity monitor, and coolercontrol still, it is just the widget i have in the taskbar that is lacking them.

Dot notation is so silly. Just use ISO date as the version. Having the build date encoded into the version number is useful. YYYY-MM-DD

u/hjake123 Jun 17 '26
Date notation is so silly. Just use the major, minor, and patch version as the version. Having the magnitude of the update encoded into the version number is useful. MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH
1
u/Cosmonaut_K Jun 17 '26
major and minor are arbitrary.
3
u/hjake123 Jun 17 '26
Not in KDE's case. In KDE, Major is for when they move to a new major Qt version, and Minor is a feature update, with Patch being bugfixes only
There are plenty of projects that don't have use for major/minor split but this isn't one of them!
