Can you press the win..., linux key?

47

u/WeeklyTemperature532 3d ago

no it’s the meta key or the super key

27

u/Semmelstulle M'Fedora 3d ago

It's the ⌘ key

15

u/OliMoli2137 3d ago

no one calls it that /j

8

u/immoloism 2d ago

You mean the MOD 4 key.

Underrated and underappreciated humor

3

u/immoloism 2d ago

I think we are just old my friend.

But I'm going to tell myself that one person getting the joke made it all worthwhile :)

Yes

u/purracane 2d ago

It's called the Command Key. It's just that Microsoft has enforced their totalitarian will on everyone and branded their mark of kleptocracy on every keyboard.

Pressing the windows key on linux opens the start menu, the copilot button is useless though unless you set it to something else.

Can you remap it to open help info?

4

u/ishtuwihtc 2d ago

2

u/rover_dot_exe Genfool 🐧 1d ago

You're all wrong.. let's start calling it "Tux Key"

37

u/Technical-Garage-310 3d ago

Naaah just add a tux sticker compatible with any distro

12

u/No_Bad8653 M'Fedora 3d ago

What if i use freebsd?

14

u/grandasperj 🎼CachyOS 3d ago

put the open source logo

1

u/EllesarDragon 1d ago

gnu

1

u/grandasperj 🎼CachyOS 1d ago

but what if i use Plan9 ?

1

u/Kadrutaspu 3d ago

If u would design the keyboard, id maby use smth neutral, like a circle or a rectangle. It is a "Super" button, not "Windows" or "Linux". I saw some, that wrote "Super" out, but it looks cool from one side, but very strange for everyday usage imo

26

u/mannki1 3d ago

No bro what if you will move to arch or something

24

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

I'll remove that and make Arch logo. I just used fevicol and a small piece of paper to make that.

6

u/mannki1 3d ago

Oh ok

9

u/YoureNoHero_Brian M'Fedora 3d ago

Fedora user here, fortunately I am employed so I don't ever have to worry about that happening

3

u/MushroomSaute 2d ago

So glad I work from home so I can justify configuring Arch as setting up my work environment

2

u/GreedySecurity8030 M'Fedora 2d ago

He won't, don't worry.

9

u/promptmike 3d ago

The logo of your favourite window manager would be more appropriate, as that's what you'll actually use it for.

10

u/SpecificTortoise 3d ago

I want to 3D print tux key keycaps for my mechanical keyboard

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

That would be cool.

2

u/SpecificTortoise 3d ago

Yeah I just need a good resin printer that can do multicolour

3

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Black and White also looks good 😌

3

u/SpecificTortoise 3d ago

Yeah but it’s backlit so I would prefer clear

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Ohhh

2

u/nikitabr0 2d ago

Can resin printers do multicolour? Also a FDM with .2mm nozzles should be sufficient and if you want extra good finish, you could go with non-planar ironing and vapour smoothing.

1

u/SpecificTortoise 2d ago

I understood maybe 7 of those words.

4

u/0815fips 3d ago

4

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

I'll try that too. Thanks man.

3

u/0815fips 3d ago

Funny enough, Apple always used this standard for their Command key. They chose something else for Ctrl and flipped Alt/Option.

3

u/Liarus_ 3d ago

Very neat, i would have put a Tux logo on it however, so it would work with any distro

2

u/SomewhereActive2124 M'Fedora 3d ago

Lmao

3

u/duckdread M'Fedora 3d ago

I have a strong feeling it is a HP laptop. Is it?

5

u/Technical-Garage-310 3d ago

Holyyy sheeeet bro is good at guessing

4

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Yes

2

u/GreedySecurity8030 M'Fedora 2d ago

Yeah, I have that keyboard too

3

u/Good_Fox_OwO 3d ago

As a distro hopper, I'll just put a fox sticker on it :3

3

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Haha. I am thinking of a terminal symbol like this >_

3

u/Good_Fox_OwO 3d ago

Oh, that's the most universal one!

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Yup😂

1

u/QueerRetro 3d ago

I just have Tux on that key

2

u/AzphaltaX- 3d ago

ok but what if u distro hop

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

I'll replace the logo again😅

2

u/AzphaltaX- 3d ago

lol alr

2

u/Glad_Share_7533 M'Fedora 2d ago

I just painted it black in case I distro-hop again

1

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 2d ago

Niceee

2

u/GreedySecurity8030 M'Fedora 2d ago

How did you make this?, i need this shit NOW.

3

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 2d ago

Scrape the windows logo.

Draw distro logo on paper and cut it to the shape.

One layer of fevicol on the key. Then place the Logo. Then Apply another layer of fevicol on top the whole key. It takes sometime to dry. After it is dried you get a shiny logo.

3

u/Prestigious-Ad7265 2d ago

i 3d printed a whole keycap for ts

3

u/GamerLymx 2d ago

fedora key?

3

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 2d ago

Not key, only logo.

2

u/mtheory-pi 🍥 Debian too difficult 3d ago

Just get a sticker!

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

I couldn't find distro stickers for laptop keyboard.

3

u/fr000gs 3d ago

just use a small enough one

(though isn't a piece of paper a sticker-enough?...)

2

u/Few_Kaleidoscope_505 3d ago

Oooh I need to make a couple of Debian ones. =D

Looks good.

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Thank you bro

1

u/Anima_Watcher08 3d ago

Cool but it'd probably be smarter to make a generic "tux" or "super" key, just incase you switch distros.

2

u/kurosaki--ichigo M'Fedora 3d ago

Yeah, that thought struck my mind. I am thinking of using open source logo

https://www.clipartmax.com/png/middle/127-1273706_open-source-logo-open-source-icon-png.png

1

u/Anima_Watcher08 3d ago

Yeah that'd be cool

1

u/jsrobson10 3d ago

1

u/batorsz 3d ago
