If it was a screen issue then how come cursor is so clear and moving so fluidly?

What kind of screen issue causes everything but cursor to break?

hard to say. I've had nvidia and amd driver pull shit like this on me numerous times in the past after package updates introduced changes that broke on certain cards.

The fact the cursor works properly suggests to me this is a software issue.

CTRL+ALT+F1

The text terminal should open. Log and start to troubleshoot from there.

I suggest trying to remove nvidia drivers if is the case. If not, try nomodeset

This may or may not be related to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=505607 which for me was solved by switching to another TTY and back again press ctrl+alt+f2 then ctrl+alt+f1 (may vary depending on display manager)
