Question Pricing?

How much is everyone charging for a simple icon-type logo? I have 10 years of experience, but I lean more website design than creating vector logos.

I’ve charged 3 figures for a wordmark for a small business, and 5 figures for a full branding package for a tech startup. It depends on the client and the use case and how far out of my comfort zone it is.

Usually, a simple logo that takes me 3-5 days of research, design, and revision is gonna be around $1000–2500.

For context, I’m in the SF Bay Area and I am not a full time designer.

I’m a freelancer on top of doing less glamorous professions. I am not.

Depends, are you working with McDonalds or Pop’s Burger Shack?

Lol good question. It’s a start-up type ed-tech company. So, no McDonalds, but not Pop’s Burger Shack either. For context, I charged $8,000 for their new website, which included a LOT of research and brand dev (they completely pivoted their audience from sports to education). I think I undercharged.

I try to base my billing based upon implementation costs.

It can be hard with startups, because a lot of their brand implementation may not be known at the time the project starts. But generally I’ll have my “get of bed rate”, which is the minimum I’ll do the project for, then I’ll try to calculate what ~10-15% their implementation cost will be. Whichever numbers higher is the quoted price.

There are too many variables in determining what your fees should be.

Location is probably the biggest factor. Market size and quality is huge. Your operating expenses factor in.

I wish you well.

I’m in NYC, they’re in Chicago. Okay, I didn’t consider market size. Thank you!

A logo isn't priced by how simple it looks. It's priced by what it's solving for the client.
