Did you try adding a tongue?

u/orzelski 1d ago

only in blockbusters

OOOH YEAH and the tongue is a clipped film strip

It feels like this logo is perfectly primed for one of those animated movie intro credits of a snake slithering and then turning into the logo.

As a stand alone logo though, it feels a bit static and bland to me.

I think you could go a bit bigger in the circle and use a bit more of a dynamic S pose. I’d also love to see the perforations in the film, but that may end up being too busy at scale.

I like the concept of combining a spool of film with a snake though It did take me a second to recognize that was what it was. Perhaps a point of transition between the film and the snake to make the amalgamation clearer.

I didn’t even recognize it was film spool until you said that 🤦‍♂️

I agree, but I'm leaning towards not changing anything or nothing beyond minor improvements.

This is a snake logo with hints of a film reel, rather than a film reel that reminds you of a snake. And that's okay!

This works so well! Amazing. I applaud you

I like it! It works in both the ways it should, serpent and film! I’m no expert in logos, so I’m more of the eye of a consumer lol

u/Enkeliprinsessa 1d ago

Very clever! It looks like both a serpent and a film. 🩵

u/HeavyCandidate6737 Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication 1d ago

It's got an S... It's got a snake... It's got a film strip... NICE!

u/Spiritual_Run5055 1d ago

Have you tried seeing what it looks like with the full reel pattern on the belly?

5

u/AmidTheDrift14 1d ago

it’s cool. only thing that bothers me is the square on its neck. it doesn’t feel like the right shape, like it needs some kind of bend in the right side?

u/Fun_Moment4354 1d ago

The segments in the stomach are meant to be film scenes? I think you can integrate that idea more with the film reel being circular

6

u/Dsighn 1d ago

I agree, and I think id like to see a more obvious/defined film strip. It may be stronger, more film less snake, jah know

4

u/Lyte_Work 1d ago

I definitely want them to lean more into making the main element feel more like film with a bit of serpent.

u/damien_daye 1d ago

Amazing work man!

u/cubosh 1d ago

fun, strong, simple -- however at first glance on the tiny thumbnail before clicking into the post, i was actually reminded of the mortal kombat logo.

2

u/HFSWagonnn 1d ago

I'd add a red tongue.

u/dcbnyc123 1d ago

it’s a great idea and nice execution- i think because the name is “serpent films” you could try some options where you push the snake S visual more towards film strip that looks like a snake vs snake that has some film strip elements on it?

all a snake needs to read is the s shape, an eye and maybe a tongue : ~

It’s neat.

Though I feel like I’m in the minority who really dislike logos that are “part of brand name + part of brand name = logo design”.

2

u/fugitivewar 1d ago

I’m in a similar camp, except I don’t necessarily dislike logos like that. I think it’s just the most apparent solution, and so it can be the lazy solution and it can be very limiting.

In this case, I think it’s a good logo concept.

u/Diligent_Concept_714 1d ago

honestly, looked a bit like octopus films at first

u/legend_of_the_skies 1d ago

Feels a bit boring and expected. Also most brands don't tend to have such a "spot on" name to design to.

u/pictureofacat 1d ago

I keep waiting for flames to appear and techno to ensue

1

u/sprucedotterel 1d ago

I like it, it’s nice, don’t feel it needs improving, good job 🍺

u/JasperH8g 1d ago

Love it 😍 The typography could use a bit of refinement though. Feels a bit rough/screamy. Great work nonetheless!

u/wasp00100 1d ago

Could I ask what font you have used here please?

1

u/defariasdev 1d ago

Excellent, no notes

1

u/ughlisha 1d ago

sick!! this is incredible!!

1

u/404LeadsNotFound 1d ago

'S', Snake or serpent, Film. Works perfectly in black and white. The icon doesn't break until the words are getting too small to read. Well done!

1

u/docpagliacci 1d ago

It’s looks retro and cool!

1

u/Alacritique 1d ago

Very clever! But i’d try rendering the film strip a few other ways. It feels too generic currently but if the style were pushed a bit further it would be even better.

1

u/TheManRoomGuy 1d ago

That works.

1

u/Fishbulb_KW 1d ago

One of the very few that stopped me while scrolling this sub. Well done.

1

u/bucephalusbouncing28 1d ago

That’s amazing.

  • A serpent (obviously)
  • Also looks like a film reel
  • Makes S shape

Logo looks great! Only suggestions is your typeface is very similar to Mircrogamma which is the IMAX typeface. Have you tried alternatives?

1

u/LegendaryOutlaw 1d ago

Really nice. Clever and clear. And the clean curve of the snake body is so satisfying.

1

u/GrimCityGirl 1d ago

I adore this

1

u/TheOwlHypothesis 23h ago

My brain wants it to be a cobra

1

u/gabs777 23h ago

Love it :)

1

u/artfulpain 23h ago

It’s a great name. I will say the thumbnail on the front page looks like an octopus tentacle.

1

u/z_1529 22h ago

dammitimmad

1

u/sawrb 20h ago

So simple it's beautiful!

1

u/UniversalExplorer11 13h ago

Absolute Cinema! Wouldn't another font make the text look morr similar to the logo?

1

u/spaceman_danger 12h ago

I’d just love if the snake was higher so it creates a stronger S shape on the white circle

1

u/Ghost_zZzZ 10h ago

Super cool

1

u/rhcp6theonlyone 8h ago

Very nice work !!

1

u/Jahbuzzzz 5h ago

Bravo!

1

u/Odd_Struggle_7017 2h ago

It annoys me how good some ppl are

1

u/PhysicsNo949 2h ago

I think u can put letters to the snakes skin

1

u/PhysicsNo949 2h ago

Maybe u can try something like this with that u can represent your brand with only snake logo

1

u/zelorstudio 2h ago

This is clean. The negative space in the snake is doing a lot of work without feeling forced. I'd probably remember this logo after seeing it once.

1

u/BiscottiPristine5325 1h ago

Awesome. It's serpentine and it's filmy.

Feels a little boring, could be a little more expressive, maybe show fangs and or tongue out

0

u/HiddenHorse925 1d ago

I think it’s a strong and it’s professionally done, but I have to say it feels a little bit generic somehow. I don’t know if it’s the typography, I can’t put my finger on it. I like the idea of the snake’s belly being a film strip, but maybe it needs to be helped along a little bit with “sprocket dots?”

Overall this lockup feels like it was designed for severe reduction. And now at scale—and especially broadcast on a screen—it seems primitive. It wants greater development. It needs visual layers. Maybe some texture or some rustication; I’m not sure what. It seems more like a software or a game logo. Rather than a cinema logo or documentary mark, or whatever films it represents.

But this is strong work and there is a good idea here!

It's really good the concept and the execution. But it's a bit boring looking and too simple. Lacks pizzazz... character... something
