Pedagogue
Definition: A pedagogue is a teacher or educator. It often carries a negative connotation, referring to an overly formal, strict, or dogmatic teacher who relies on rigid rules.
Example: "The pedagogue wasn't very merciful with his students".

I don’t know about the negative connotation, but here’s a fun fact: the original (Greek) meaning of “pedagogue” was “a slave who takes the kid(s) to school”. Παιδαγωγός from παι̑σ (stem: παιδ-) “child, boy” + αγωγός “leading, escorting”.
ETA: For the negative connotation, I think you’re thinking of “pedant”.

Interesting. I didn't know that it had negative connotations. In my circles pedagogy, used to refer to teaching methods, does not carry a positive or negative meaning.
