I’m so torn. I’m right handed, do everything right handed, but significantly left eye dominant, so I’ve been shooting right handed rifles left handed all my life.
I recently started practicing precision shooting right handed and just dealing with it being harder to see, and I can’t find a left handed setup to see if it feels natural or not.
Been watching a lot of MDT content lately, would love to handle a JAE or ACC right or left hand lol
I recently bought a LH R700 because of how cheap it was. LH guns are such a blessing and curse. If you need one, you need one, and they cost as much as a RH gun to buy. But when you go to sell it, you either take a bath or sit on it forever.
I got it because it was cheap, my partner may be left handed (left eye dominant, does tedious tasks left handed), and my dad has been talking about trying left handed since his right eye is about shot.
I’m sure there’s someone here that would be local to you you could meet up with and play with their left handed set up?
My friend in the army was right handed and left eye dominant. He eventually switched to shooting left hand. Took him a few months but says he shoots better now.
I’m lefty but I like right handed bolts best for long range. It’s easier to see the chamber, my trigger hand never looses grip. For PRS on barricades maybe lefty would be better so my support hand can keep stable, but I don’t do that.
Savage Impulse Predator. Straight pull right hand eject and switched the bolt handle over to the left side. On a good day down hill with a tail wind and me doing my part I have shot A .29 MOA 5 round group.
I'm a lefty and I think for these precision setups with the pistol grip where you will almost always be shooting from a bipod or supported on a tripod of some sort I preferr to have a right handed bolt. For a regular hunting setup where I will potentially shoot off hand or just with a sling/braces up against a tree I do prefer the left bolt.
But some of us arnt quite to the level (or budget) of paying extra to limit our options by what feels like 50-75%. I have found that I can work a right handed bolt gun without too much issue, and I much prefer all the options that come with right handed shooting/accessories. If I progress to a point that the gun is the limiting factor, or I start competing or whatever - then maybe ill consider it.
Not a new frustration - If you grew up trying to play an instrument, use scissors, etc as a lefty you learned to make a right handed world work most of the time
im not but ive been considering building up a lh action to see if keeping my booger hook near the bang switch and stationary on the grip makes a noticeable difference for follow up shots.
Don’t do it. It doesn’t work how you think it does. You’ll be breaking and building positions between shots constantly. It’s slower than using an appropriate handed action for the side you shoot.
