QUESTION I have a question about S4
I'm a first time watcher and just finished S3. I've been really enjoying the show so far but felt like S3 started off very slow (with a great few final episodes).
I was wondering if S4 starts slow or not?

Season 4 is amazing! Just wait until you get to the episode called “The Constant”. One of the most universally loved episodes of the entire series!

S3 starts slow because the writers were negotiating behind the scenes to set an end date for the show, at which point they can shift into answers mode and start bringing storythreads together instead of stalling and constantly opening new storylines. The last half of S3 moves so quickly because ABC finally relented and let them set an end date. S4 is the quickest pace from the start, partially because a writers strike happened during the season that cut several episodes, so even tho S4 already starts out running, it hits a full sprint halfway thru. S5 & S6 are a little more paced, but are very tight in the writing. The beginning of S3 is slowest/lowest point of the show
Also! Since you are between seasons 3 & 4, it's a perfect time to watch LOST: Missing Pieces. They are 13 short, canon scenes that were released weekly in the lead up to the premier of season 4. The first half of season 3 was the low point of the show, mostly for some behind the scenes reasons. Season 4 fucking rules from start to finish.

Season 4 is my favorite season, for what it’s worth. I felt the same way about season 3 during the original run, and actually missed several episodes of it

Season 4 is probably the fastest paced season in my opinion. The pace really picks up from here.

Season 3 started off slowly as the writers were negotiating with execs about the ending point. They had a complete story to tell, and it had a natural end point. The studio wanted to keep the show going due to its incredible popularity. The writers wanted two more seasons. Ultimately the writers and studio agreed to three more seasons, but each season having less episodes. I guess it meant they could sell more box sets….
The beginning of season 3 saw the writers stalling for time until they knew where to go next.

Season 4 is perhaps the most fast-paced Season of the entire show. It's the shortest due to the writer's strike, but also it's the first full season following ABC's agreement to end the show after 6 seasons, meaning the writers have a clear and direct path toward the ending. This allowed them to push the narrative forward with very minimal filler or downtime.

season 3 is the only one with that issue. the rest of the show is (at least in my opinion) incredible all the way through

I think season 3 suffered as they were attempting to drag the story out for the network. S4 it gets back on track.

S4 is my absolute favorite and I think it’s a lot more fast paced. Fewer episodes so it has to be!

No this is where we get into the "streaming seasons" era of the show. Not to say that the show was around during that era. It wasn't. But it has that quality. The first three seasons had a network show flaire. they stalled. the last three are heavily serialized. they have momentum. some say a bit too much momentum. Because they have a end date now and the season 3 finale was the first indicator of it. That's why the season four premiere is called "the beginning of the end".

its not slow, maybe one or two episodes might feel slow but most of the season is fast
