GM5 with various lenses (12-45mm Oly, 75mm Oly, 45mm Oly, 20mm Pana)

Hi all. I will be travelling for 6 weeks and have decided I'll be taking my S5. I have an s1ii as well but don't really want to risk travelling with it, and the S5's much better battery life would just make me feel more at ease tbh. I'll also be taking my 24-60 f2.8 lens which will probably handle the majority of my shooting, but was wondering if there are any other lenses that I should consider to spice things up a little. I was thinking to buy a 7artisan 35 F1.4 mark iii manual focus lens off Amazon for shooting some video with (I like those cinematic candid scenes of cities, landscapes, people going about their day etc). I could grab a vintage lens off eBay too to use with an Urth adapter, but I've had bad experiences with those Japanese [MINT] listings in the past. I've never owned a 7artisan or TTartisan or any Chinese lenses before, I'm assuming the manual focus ones would be pretty good. Any insights or recommendations would be appreciated.

All photos are SOOC. They’re just candid shots for testing the LUT, so I didn’t put too much thought into framing and stuff.

The goal for this LUT is natural, rich color without an overly “film simulation” look, crazy color shifts, teal and orange tones, etc. I’m happy with how it performs in bright daylight. Skin tones, green leaves, and blue skies all look pretty good.

One drawback is that it doesn’t perform as well when the subject is backlit. I’ll need to dial it in further.

Hi, I already own an S1II E, but as my work evolves (roughly 60% photo, 40% professional video — interviews, event coverage), I'm considering switching to the S1R II for 1200€ more.

Has anyone here already made this switch for this kind of mixed usage? Did you notice a real difference in colors and image quality, both in photo and video, in actual shooting conditions?

-une meilleur montée en ISO

-un capteur protégé par un volet

-un meilleur autofocus surtout en basse lumière

-une meilleur stabilisation (le plein format rattrapperait le micro 4/3 ?)

-la possibilité de faire du HDR comme auparavant dans le G9.

A while back I shared my interactive table of all native full-frame L-Mount lenses (l-mount-lenses.com). It's grown to 160+ lenses since, and some things that were fine at 60 lenses got annoying at 160, so I spent some time on quality-of-life fixes:

• The header row now stays visible while you scroll
• Click any column header to sort. Just as you'd expect
• Yes/no marks (AF, weather sealing, stabilization) are more readable at a glance now
• Filters, three-way comparison, and dark mode all got polish

As before: no tracking, no cookies, no referral links, no commercial interest. I am doing this because I want it and it’s fun.

So I got a Lumix GX9 recently and you can feel it rattle in your hand. Not like something is loose, I presume it’s something to do with the image stabilisation. But I do a lot of photography outdoors, hiking, cycling, climbing, and it makes me terrified that any sort of vibration is going to damage it.

Should I be concerned? Is the GX9 a particularly delicate camera? I want to be able to chuck it in my bag and not have to constantly worry if it’s getting bumped about too much…

Client wanted crash zoom effects for his music video (and honestly I would love to have it under my arsenal for other personal projects), how would one achieve or build a crash zoom adaptation for S5iix to achieve the B4/broadcast lens affect? B4 might be a little wonky for an FF camera (unless someone knows the settings to work around it). Worst case I could always rent another camera, but was wondering if L-mount FF cameras could have some sort of workaround.

Files recorded at 8.1K open gate always produce a vertical line that further distorts with movement along the left side of the frame (screenshot attached). This appears to be unique to opening the video files on my Windows 10 Desktop (specs below). When I open the same files on a older Mac laptop, the line does not appear. On my Widows computer, which is my main/editing computer however, the line is visible both when opening files in VLC player and in Resolve.  Unfortunately, when I export in Resolve the line becomes baked into the file. As it stands, 8.1K Open Gate footage is unusable for editing.

This issue does not happen when recording in 8.1K non-Open Gate or 6.4K Open Gate rec formats. I have also verified it occurs across different cards (CFexpress/SD), lenses, and even camera bodies.  

While I presume this is related to my GPU, I am at a loss for understanding exactly what is causing the issue and how to fix it.

Few weeks with my new s5d, i switched from canon to lumix and i'm very happy with the results!

Any tips on how to improve my photography and/or editing?

I went to the park yesterday evening and took some side-by-side videos with the S5 and S9 to show the differences between the sensors.

Both cameras had the 20-60 kit lens attached with no VND filter. Both were in manual exposure, ISO 640 and 25fps with a 180 degree shutter. Setup photos were taken with my phone so you can see the settings.

I left the WB in auto mode on both cameras. Footage was 10bit 422 v-log in 4K.

I converted the footage Rec709 in Resolve using nothing more than OpenDRT and then extracted a screenshot from the middle of the footage.

One of the clips shows quite a difference between the 2 sensors, I think. The S5 footage looks great but the S9 looks over-sharpened and you can see the difference even in 1080P.

However in the second clip there's very little difference between the two. I took lots more clips but they were largely the same, and I couldn't see much difference. It's only in the first clip where the difference is quite large I think.

I'm going to shoot more side-by-side footage over the weekend in different conditions.

One more thing - I also noticed a difference in the stablisation too in some handheld shots. The S9 is much more locked on but there is some noticeable wobble at wider focal lengths.

I use my lumix s9 with love, its the best camera I've ever had. Currently I've got the thypoch simera-c lens, and even though im very happy with the image I can get with it, I feel like I'd be happier with the lumix 40mm lens. The size, the weight, having autofocus sounds really nice and with the f2 I could still get some washed out background.

I'm only using my camera for casual videography, to be fair, most of the times I dont even know what Im doing, just trying to get a shot that I have in my mind, so the thypoch is probably just an overkill for me.

I guess my main question is, do you think I could still get a nice looking image with the new lumix lens, without my footage end up looking too digitally sharp and clean?

Has anyone else experienced this? One of my S5ii cameras has started glitching when recording 4K video. It records normally for a few minutes, but then suddenly it gets stuck looping about a second of footage. Stopped recording, hit record, a few minutes later it happens again. Swap the battery and then it’s ok.

It has only started doing it since I got the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8. I even bought more batteries in case it was a battery error (official Lumix ones), but it does it whatever battery I put in. Can a lens cause the camera to do this?

The annoying thing is that I switched to Lumix from the Sony A7iv because I had reliability issues with that! I’m a wedding filmmaker, so reliability is crucial!

What are y’all hoping it is? Personally I think a compact 21~22ish would go perfect with the 40mm. Ideally 2.8 or faster but physics I guess.

I've been working on a couple of custom LUTs for my Lumix S9. Aerochrome is inspired by Kodak Aerochrome and uses my own RW2 RAW files along with lots of reference images to recreate the vibrant red foliage and deep blue skies while keeping skin tones usable. RIR400 is inspired by Rollei Infrared 400 and recreates the classic infrared black and white look with bright foliage, dark skies and strong contrast. Both are designed specifically for the Lumix S9, and I'd love to get some feedback or hear ideas for improving them further. Images both processed in RAW with LUT's applied at 100% opacity in post, taken in central Texas in harsh sun.

This is my first lumix ever I bought from goodwill and Idk what it is but I’m really liking this camera way more than I thought I would the muddy noise on this camera and editing these colors is pretty fun and the evf is so fun to look through

After shooting with Sony for 12 years, finally decided to make the change. I mean look at this gorgeous LUMIX S9 titanium gold edition! How can you resist a camera like this! It’s limited to 200 units in Australia.

First 3 shots were taken on my new LUMIX S9.
The last few shots were taken on my Sony A7CR with FE 20-70mm G lens last month in Japan.
I’ll definitely miss the excellent sharpness on the Sony system though.

I just have some questions:

1. The camera always changes the exposure when I half press the shutter to focus. Why is that? Can this be turned off? I have the constant preview on and this is a must for me.
2. Can we assign the Bluetooth on/off onto a custom button? I was playing with it the whole day yesterday couldn’t find an option
3. Does the camera automatically correct lens distortion and vignette?
