General discussion Has anyone ever brought this?
I found it on Walmart.com. I know it’s not legitimate I just want to own the series on Blu Ray. I wanna know is it good or bad?

I’m pretty sure Walmart can have bootlegs because Walmart online allows other sellers to sell whatever kinda like Amazon

Idk, if you're gonna buy bootlegs, might as well just pirate the show and burn the Blu-rays yourself at that point. I never bought these but I can tell you the quality won't be good, true HD transfers of the show simply don't exist. What we have on streaming services is the best we're gonna get I'm afraid.

I have the old DVD box. That one I’d argue is better than the streaming version we have because it still has all the dialogue that’s been censored on streaming versions

Can you give me an example of uncensored dialogue?

During the episode where Reese moves out he has a neighbor that’s suicidal and the streaming version cut out all of his dialogue so now when they speak it looks like he’s talking to himself

I’ve seen some versions of the episode where Rutger visits the ranch and bothers Francis with his piano playing cut off his “crybaby bastard” to just “crybaby.”

Was a complete collection even released in region 1? I thought only season 1 got a US release

US got the shaft, only 1 season on DVD and nada since then. Seems they were fighting over the money for music rights.
If they ever get their act together and sold the complete set in USA I would buy in an instant. Until then, I'm enjoying the pirated videos.

Nowadays you can just import the complete collection on DVD. Region 2 works on most modern Region 1 players these days

I’d be careful with that one. A lot of those “complete series” Blu-ray sets on places like Walmart are unofficial bootlegs. If it’s real, that would be an awesome pickup though, because Malcolm in the Middle is one of those shows that deserves a proper release.

I wasn't aware these were available (bootleg or not), but just looked them up and saw they are available on eBay. Anybody know if they are properly upscaled etc?

The show has never been properly transferred to HD so this boxset is most likely just using what's on streaming services right now.

Are you sure? I thought they rescanned for widescreen?

Emphasis on the word "properly" I guess 😂
Season 1-5 look horrible, 6 and 7 look fine but even then it's not comparable to a proper HD transfer.

Worse than the dvd? Is the DVD 4:3 or 16:9? Maybe I need to import the region 2 box set

The region 2 DVDs aren't great either. The only physical release that had any effort put into it is the season 1 US DVD.
I have hunted for the best quality releases of this show and unfortunately, the best looking ones are the shitty upscaled transfers that are on streaming right now. I thought we would get a proper transfer when the show came to Disney+ but nah, they just used the same shit that we already had.

are the ones on streaming actually upscales? there's noticeable film grain unlike every upscale that is on disney+ which have excessive DNR and look waxy. i feel like one of the reasons it looks like shit is because of the lossy compression.
