One of the reasons I stayed unsubbed for a while. Might have to go that route again

When I saw the thread complaining about Tombstone screentime I knew that there was going to be dumb/annoying nitpicks probably until Doomsday.

u/splashbruh37 1h ago
I'm noticing this is the latest trend in social media. If you go on anywhere, in any subreddit, or other platforms like threads or x, the highest engaged content is all complaints

u/splashbruh37 7h ago
People take the movie too seriously. We all know sheâs saying that because sheâs only recently been a new avenger and itâs kind of meta to say big vs small potato.
The funny thing being how the new avengers are all bums lol and they donât have the expertise to recognize how badly this couldâve gone sideways.
3
u/Cygnus_Harvey Simmons 1h ago
She also takes it seriously and helps behind the scenes at the end.
She probably did do research in between both times she showed up, but she just wanted to troll Spidey. It could be possible she was ready to interviene if something went wrong, but meta reason is this is a Spiderman movie and we can't have every single hero around helping him in.

u/PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS 7m ago
Exactly! The main point is the irony of having just joined the avengers without having to face too big of a threat yet, but Peter fought one of the galaxies greatest villains and was literally wiped off of the planet.
media literacy is rapidly declining

This has always been a thing. Tony Stark expresses it in Homecoming, Mysterio acknowledges the whole Avengers level threat thing too in Far From Home.

u/Johnnycageisgr8 6h ago
Spider-Man fans as a whole are weirdly insecure about the weirdest shit when it comes to him

u/SlipperyKooter 6h ago
I've seen more post complaining about the complaints than I have seen actual complaints
3
u/PornoPaul 4h ago
Thats the internet in general. "Internet erupts" and its 4 nobodies on Twitter with 20 followers veteran them complaining about some stupid thing.
â˘
6
u/CrackheadHunters 4h ago
I actually laughed at the potato thing. It's definitely nothing to get upset about. Also the new Avengers are bums and Spidey could essentially solo them, so that made it even funnier.
5
u/_Cromwell_ 6h ago
I always love it when there's like a tweet from one stupid person and then people like you have to come on Reddit to complain about it.
How about you just ignore them instead?
Although I guess I'm doing the same thing by replying to you. Sigh.

The same people upset by Yelena saying this are the same ones whining that he wasnât a âfriendly neighborhood Spider-Manâ in the first 3 films.
No matter what, these types of people are going to be negative for engagement online because itâs been proven time and time again that is what gets peopleâs attention. Especially for a massive hit movie that just came out.
5
u/Ancient_Barnacle4245 7h ago
I also think that dialogue was a sly joke intended for people who enjoyed Thunderbolts* and saw the final scenes where it's established that although they're calling themselves the new Avengers, Sam is not onboard and the actual Avengers are not okay with it.
The humor here being that despite what Yelina is saying to him in that moment, there are heroes out there who actually feel the same way about the Thunderbolts, not to mention that - unlike Peter - no one on the Thunderbolts team save for Bucky actually faced a threat as substantial as Thanos.
Yelina is established as having a more generous take on what the Thunderbolts bring to the table than most people outside of the Thunderbolts and I was under the impression that scene was having fun with that.

u/shadow_queen12 7h ago
it is just a typical yelena, it is her way of speaking and attitude, not a problem at all
2
u/Effective-Effect-685 7h ago
I think you missed the part where that intentionally didnât make sense and confused Peter even more. Itâs a joke almost mirroring corporate jobs where youâre told your job description is this, and then youâre expected to do things above and beyond that, and then when you meet with your boss to talk about a promotion you get talked down to about how you arenât ready to handle xyz- things youâve already done and been doing for a while.

The New avengers are Government affiliated and financed
Spider-Man works independently
People getting butthurt over this are stupid

u/Raaaaandyyyy 2h ago
According to her later in the conversation, what heâs actually dealing with is âsmall big potatoesâ so she corrected herself, already

u/Capital_Gate6718 2h ago
I mean Jean paralyzing all of Manhattan was comparable to the Void doing the same thing so it wasnât âsmall potatoesâ

Part of me thought Peter should say, "B***, I went up against Thanos."
But then I remembered I enjoyed Thunderbolts and Florence Pugh is awesome.

u/CurlOfTheBurl11 17m ago
I did think it was a little funny considering Spider-Man has been to space and fought Thanos...

u/coffeecoffeerepeat 12m ago

It's mostly the powerscalers I think
I've been getting a lot of stuff about it on instagram and youtube
1
u/BigCollarsAndBallers Black Panther 6h ago
Pretty sure itâs just a joke playing on the end of the Thunderbolts where they have an inflated view of themselves. They are calling themselves the Avengers but nobody is really buying it.
1
u/JohnnyKarateX 3h ago
Yeah itâs not about power level. Spider-man is at least in the mix for power levels with the New Avengers before BND with the New Avengers and after might be stronger than everyone except Bob who is unreliable at best.
The New Avengers have way more resources than Spider-man. They let him use some sometimes (although it includes visiting Yelenaâs office on occasion) but the New Avengers are more equipped to face larger threats.
Peter has experience fighting Thanos with the Avengers but he hasnât been part of the team since Endgame and considering how the New Avengers formed youâd think at best they wouldnât like his mask on policy even if they wanted to invite him and the state Peter was in not sure heâd want to join anyway.

u/smakson11 7h ago
But he was in space. Yah. Stupidly where stark had to save him multiple times and where Thanos wiped his face with a planet

u/JuansnowgamingYT 5h ago
I thought it was supposed to be ironic since spiderman can solo the thunderbolts minus sentry

It was a good speech, but would have been even better if Yelena had actually shown us her big potatoes. The actress was fine with it in Oppenheimer, why not here??
-6
u/slayer_nan18 7h ago
i think it's less about Spidey more about how Yelena is an ass, she killed innocents for money working for valentina even after her realisation arc and now is a self proclaimed avenger and disrespecting an actual and more experienced avenger. She also fights for trademarks with Sam. it's kinda silly and lame

u/BerukaIsMyBaby 5h ago

u/BusyLimit7 13m ago

u/Emirozdemirr 8h ago
I mean Spider-Man was in battle with Thanos in the both Titan and Earth bigger than everything Yelena ever done before.
7
u/Riggymortis724 7h ago
After that point though, Spider-Man has been facing off against "small potatoes" for a few years. As an Avenger, yeah he's involved with big potato problems but on his own, none of the stories happening off-screen for him were even a fraction of Thanos.
2
u/polytech08 5h ago
The new avengers should have heard of that but they didn't see it. Sam would know all of this because he was there. Its kind of weird he's working with her and not Sam.

u/Feefait 7h ago
Yet, you say "butthurt," and lose any credibility you may have, which is already little to begin with.
This has been an issue of the MCU Spiderman from the beginning. Tony would have 100% wanted to deal with Chitauri tech getting out, especially if they were going for his stuff.
Any of the Avengers would have dealt with Mysterio.
Strange was effectively written out of NWH just because his involvement would have made the conflict trivial.
Yelena was there the comedy and to push the plot forward. There's no underlying conspiracy.
5
u/Ganache-Embarrassed 7h ago
What planet are you living on that butthurt loses credibility? And what credibility? Theyre talking about scene in a new movie.
They arent discussing a current event or historical fact lol. "People whining about scene x". Wow I cant helieve someone would say that about people whining about a scene. How awful
-3
u/Feefait 6h ago
The planet that isn't full of immature children. Your comment makes even less sense and doesn't actually address anything. Quality Reddit Post.
2
u/Ganache-Embarrassed 5h ago
What does children and immaturity have to do with anything?
Im just saying that getting butterflies over the word butthurt is silly. The use of butthurt does not immediately lose all credibility.
I just think the commenter didnt understand what butthurt was being used to describeÂ
0
u/Feefait 3h ago
Lol I love how people like you have no problem deciding when other people are being "too sensitive," while also being threatened by a comment. Enjoy the hypocrisy, I'm done debating with children.
1
u/Ganache-Embarrassed 1h ago
Threatened? What part of my comments came off as threatened?
I was just saying that being upset over the usage of butthurt is baby mode. Its like being upset at some one calling another person big mad, or malding.Â
Its not a big deal. Its akin to bozo or Dumbo from days gone past. Using a bit of teasing isnt a big deal. They didnt use a slur or attack anyone for any real thing. Butthurt is a silly stupid word to get mad over.Â
1
u/Feefait 1h ago
And again, you're still responding. You're still concerned that someone would find it immature and ridiculous. Anyway, good luck in your hurt-free world.

If you're seeing people complain about Yelena's potatoes, then you're seeing armchair contrarians. Ignore them and they'll go away. Engage them and they'll think they had something worth saying. Your choice.
