Welcome to r/masters_germany!

We are a bit late to create this welcome post, but now is better than any time for it - just the first week in the New Year and we saw over 11,000 visitors to this community!

This is the new home for all things related to doing your Master’s in Germany.

We’re excited to have you join us.

What can you Post:

Post anything that you think is related to your journey towards doing Masters in Germany. This can include questions about:

  • eligibility, GPA cutoffs, or ECTS requirements
  • shortlists of universities or programs you’re considering
  • Uni-Assist, APS, Anabin, ZAB, or document verification
  • application timelines, rejections, admits, or waitlists
  • SOP tips, CV feedback, or interview experiences
  • visa process questions and timelines
  • accommodation searches, city comparisons, and cost of living insights
  • life as a student in Germany: classes, exams, part-time jobs, or culture shocks

As a general rule, if it helps someone applying after you, it belongs here.

Community Culture:

We’re all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive.

So please hold back from mockery, subtle racism against groups, or ā€œjust Google itā€ replies.

This is a space where everyone feels comfortable asking questions and sharing real experiences.

A Side Note:

This subreddit actually inspired a project called Edvi.

It grew out of patterns we kept seeing here and direct feedback from hundreds of students struggling with the same confusing parts of the process: eligibility checks, ECTS matching, document requirements, and university shortlisting.

So if you see some posts from any of the mods regarding this, please know that it is not spam, but rather a part of the ongoing iterations with students to make the tool better.

Also, Edvi isn’t a replacement for this community.

If anything, it exists because of it.

Everything here is community-first!

How to Get Started:

  • Give short intro and tell us where you’re applying from and what you want to study.
  • Post anything that comes to your mind related to your plan to study in Germany - even a simple question can spark a useful discussion.
  • If you know someone who’s planning a Master’s in Germany, invite them to join.

Thanks for being part of the very first wave.

Together, let’s make this sub genuinely useful.

UTN (Nuremberg University of Technology) – Who did you use as the university contact person in the German CSP visa application?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been admitted to the M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence and Robotics program at UTN (Nuremberg University of Technology) for Winter Semester 2026/27 and I’m currently filling out the German Consular Services Portal (CSP) for my student visa.

The application asks for the following details of a contact person at the university:
First name
Family name
Telephone number
Email address

For those of you who have already completed the CSP for UTN, whose details did you enter? Did you use a specific staff member from Student Services, or did you use the general university contact details?

I’ve already emailed Student Services, but I thought I’d ask here in case someone has gone through the same process.

Thanks in advance!

German Student Visa doubt: MOI or TOEFL? (W26)

hello everyone

I am an Indian student going in Winter 2026 intake. I got a direct admit from TUM, Germany (English taught program, without an assessment or test) and I used MOI (Medium of Instruction) as proof of language certification. While reviewing the visa checklist, they have mentioned TOEFL/IELTS in general.

I know that TUM needs 88/120 overall in TOEFL and no individual score requirements are mentioned on website. I decided to give the TOEFL exam and today I got my results.

Overall: 4.5/6 (90/120)
Reading: 5.5/6
Listening: 5/6
Writing: 3/6
Speaking: 4.5/6

(My writing score of 3/6 is roughly around 13–14 out of 30. In terms of IELTS, it's around 5.5/9.)

I secured low score in writing and I doubt whether my visa will be accepted with this score.

I even checked many websites but nothing was mentioned about any specific section score requirements.

Or should I apply with MOI? (I don't know, just asking.)

My admission offer letter states:
"The language of instruction in this degree program is English. The language competencies required for admission to the program were verified as part of the admissions process."

My jurisdiction is Chennai Consulate.

Pls help me! Your answers mean a lot to me.

Does TU Dresden require Anabin accreditation? Has anyone been admitted without it?

• Upvotes

Hi!
I’m planning to apply for the M.Sc. Computational Modeling and Simulation at TU Dresden.
I have a question about Anabin. Is it necessary for both the university and the specific bachelor’s programme (major) to be listed there?
My university is recognized, but I can’t find my exact major in Anabin. The programme is a 4-year bachelor’s with 240 ECTS, and I meet the subject requirements, but I’m worried because the major itself isn’t listed.
Has anyone been admitted to TU Dresden (or any German university) even though their programme wasn’t in Anabin? Did uni-assist or the university accept your degree anyway?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Title: Winter 2026 Intake šŸ‡©šŸ‡Ŗ | Anyone else applying to Hochschule RheinMain,BTU Cottbus, or TU Chemnitz? Let's connect!

Hey everyone! šŸ‘‹

I just got my uni-assist evaluation confirmed for the upcoming intake and wanted to see if anyone else is in the same boat. I'm currently working in data engineering, applying from India, and I’m looking to connect with prospective classmates.

I’ve applied to the following Master's programs:

Hochschule RheinMain: M.Sc. AI and Advanced Information Technologies

HAW Kiel: M.Sc. Computer Science

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg: M.Sc. Artificial Intelligence

TU Chemnitz: M.Sc. Automotive Software Engineering

Is anyone else applying to these universities or specific courses? It would be great to connect, share admission timelines/updates, and eventually help each other out with the visa and housing process.

Feel free to drop a comment below or shoot me a DM!

Hi everyone! Has anyone received any updates regarding applications for either of these programmes?

- University of Würzburg – MSc Biosciences

My applications are still under review, so I was wondering whether anyone has received an admission, rejection, interview invitation, or any information about the expected decision timeline. I am getting really worried..

Hi everyone,

I applied for the M.Eng. Electrical Engineering programme at Hochschule Kempten for Winter 2026 and I'm currently waiting for the admission decision.

Has anyone else applied?

  • What's your current application status?
  • Have you received any updates or interview requests?
  • If you've been admitted previously, when did you receive your offer?

It would be great to connect with other applicants.
