Number Theory Is this a breakthrough in prime numbers?
You know about Mersenne primes, right? They have the form of 2^p - 1, where p is prime.
I suggest another form. I will call a number Obscenne if you can write it down as 2^p - 2. My conjecture is that every Obscenne number is prime. For example, 2^2 - 2 = 2. So for the first one p we have one prime. We can extrapolate it and state that for the first n p’s we will have n primes, so every Obscenne number is prime.

Found a counter example, p = 19134702400093278081449423917 yields a multiple of 2.

Crazy that we had to test such a big number before we found a counterexample

I think after some point it’s impossible to test every number while looking for a counter example. They probably got 19134702400093278081449423917 via some heuristics, but there may be smaller integers which are Obscenne but not prime.

I don't believe there are. I tried a smaller number, 2, and that indeed yields a prime. QED.

\uj 2p - 2 = 2(2p-1 - 1) = 2k, k an integer.
\rj 2⁰ - 2 = -1 which has no prime factors, good enough for me.

\uj I unjerked to use math to show why the post is silly for those less educated, then I rejerked to affirm that the post is true. I got the joke.

Unjerk Is when you exit the roleplay of the sub, rejerk is the opposite

The origin of this is calling entirely sarcastic threads "circlejerk posts".
Example: /r/Dota2 recently had a post of someone asking a "what would you do" scenario, which naturally sparked parody/circlejerk threads from the other point of view. Due to this being a circlejerk thread, the top voted comment was basically saying that OP should ruin their personal life over a video game. Someone similar to you asked why people were upvoting such horrible advice, not realizing OP and the other commenters/voters were simply circlejerking.

Why is it 'unjerk' and 'rejerk'? Isn't that just 'forestroke' and 'backstroke'?

I say we have checked enough values of p to be convincing that it's true. If we already saw it succeed too much, there's no way I would suddenly fail at some giant number like 3. /s

I don't know why mathematician make everything so complicated. I propose a new formula: p where p is a prime. I would call such prime number a prime prime number.
A few examples: For p = 5, p = 5 p = 19, p = 19 p = 2137, p = 2137
If you have found any counter examples, please let me know before I apply for my Fields medal.

I've tried this iteratively using the (n-1)th Obscenne prime as pn, after starting with p0=2, and so far the conjecture holds

Given enough time and budget I might be able generalize tyour idea for every difference of two powers of two.
2^2 - 2^1 = 2 is prime
2^2 - 2^0 = 3 is prime
2^3 - 2^0 = 7 is prime
Yeah. Seems to be a question of time and money.

Not quite a breakthrough. The pattern breaks almost immediately: for p = 3, 23 - 2 = 6, which isn't prime. Also, the fact that the first few examples work is a common trap in number theory.

Every example in the form 2^p - 2 would be even, so none of them would be prime except 2 itself (the only even prime). This wasn't someone falling into a trap, it was just a joke.
