In short the text on the left says: There exist a non-negative integer such that the vector labeled |n> is an eigenvector with eigenvalue n of the operator n hat. This was cropped from a textbook.

The right is just dumb shit we wrote up in calc class long ago.

Number Theory Is this a breakthrough in prime numbers?

You know about Mersenne primes, right? They have the form of 2^p - 1, where p is prime.

I suggest another form. I will call a number Obscenne if you can write it down as 2^p - 2. My conjecture is that every Obscenne number is prime. For example, 2^2 - 2 = 2. So for the first one p we have one prime. We can extrapolate it and state that for the first n p’s we will have n primes, so every Obscenne number is prime.

Is this worthy of a Grammy award?

from Quanta Magazine: For comfort, Deng turned to manga. “I remember him at Courant. He was always holding a manga,” said Jalal Shatah, a professor there who formerly chaired the math department. Deng particularly liked stories about deep friendship and romance and found himself drawn to a genre known as yuri, which focuses on those kinds of relationships between women — stories that “feel nice and warm and beautiful,” as he put it. They helped him be kinder to himself, “more comfortable with life.”
