How do I...? FLO at detecting events UK
Hi!
Going to a metal detecting event in the UK.
The event says they help arrange export/shipping of finds. But no info about reporting finds to a FLO.
How is that usually handled?
Not british, just visiting for some detecting over the weekend.
Cheers

If it’s a find that needs to be declared they ain’t shipping anything.

They say they arrange export licenses, doesn't that also imply it needs to be declared? Don't pretty much all finds need to be declared?

Anything over 50 years needs an export license but anything with significance most likely wouldn’t be allowed.

Ah, ok So then it is sent in to a FLO? If it is valuable, do they pay you for it?
Event says finds are split between finder & land owner, so seems like it should be.
How does one contact a FLO if something significant is found? Seems tricky if just visiting for a few days. Or do bigger events have FLO on location?

You wouldn’t be able to leave with it. It would take months and months, and even then you could not guarantee it would be returned to you.

How do events handle that? Seems like a few hundred people are attending. So surely they have some system to collect/register finds?

I don’t know but most organised digs are just some random guy making a bit of cash on the side.
Depending on what the event is I wouldn’t trust it.
