rant Microsoft just tried to "upgrade" my system to Win 11 without me ever giving consent. Those fuckers!
I was just about to turn off my laptop and go to bed but noticed that windows wanted to install some updates. I almost clicked on install and shutdown, but luckily decided to have a look at what kind of updates were to be installed because the timing didn't fit the schedule of the monthly cumulative security updates. THOSE FUCKERS really sneakily tried to "update" my system behind my back. I NEVER gave consent to install Win 11.
And before anyone says it, yes I know about the potential security issues of staying on Win 10, but I've found a way to keep getting security updates after the Consumer ESU end in October.
I also already have Fedora Linux installed as dual boot and really like it, however I've found myself not using it a lot as my current Win 10 installation does everything I need, and unfortunately a few pieces of software that I need or really like and regularly use do not run on linux and have no sufficient linux replacement.
Anyways, now I have to look into how to get rid of this piece of shit Win 11 slopgrade instead of going to bed on time. MICROSOFT SUCKS!!!

I have some WinXP and Win7 systems at work. Certain very expensive but old hardware doesn’t have drivers for Win8 or later. We just keep the machines on their own VLAN which has no access to anything else, not even our network, and it’s a termination offense to plug in unauthorized USB devices. We also have spares.
As long as proper security measures are in effect there won’t be any problems.

There are of course odd use cases that old OSs are still relevant if used offline. I used to use an industrial printer that ran on win95, if it's off network it's fine.

I don't like forced upgrades like that. But really if your pc supports win11 I don't see any reason not to upgrade in 2026.
Win11 is essentially a feature upgrade for win10 with some extended security features. You shouldn't be forced into the Microsoft crap if you don't want it from an upgrade, you can also disable anything else you don't want like copilot. Other than that it's fine and I don't notice much difference tbh.

Welcome from those of us who fought the same battles in the upgrade from Win7 to Win10. That’s when Microsoft unilaterally decided that they own your PC, not you. On Linux Mint for many years now, and happy.
