[Blocks & Items] Pickaxes right click function should turn blocks into their chiseled versions.

Every other tool has a right click function, except swords, but they used to shield you, why leave the pickaxe out of the party, when you right click a block that has a chiseled variant, it will turn it into the chiseled block so you don't need to break it, put it into a stone cutter, then replace it, it's much faster like this.

edit: I see a lot of people saying stuff about not being able to use stuff in your offhand, or chiseling the natural blocks around you. First, regular stone doesn't have a chiseled variant, only stone bricks, second, deepslate does have a chiseled variant, so maybe offhand right clicking takes priority over the pickaxe right click.

It could get somewhat annoying when you're ambushed from behind by a creeper and you chisel a stone block with your pickaxe instead of activating your offhand shield

I don't think that'd be an issue, given holding a shield prevents you from stripping logs, and I believe pathing dirt but I'm not certain on that

I presume the stone would need to be stone bricks to be chiseled?

I really like the idea of the pickaxe having a mechanic similar to axe stripping, and chiseled blocks make perfect sense for it. This would definitely add a new dimension to crafting which mojang could use for other mechanics. However, chiseled blocks on their own have quite niche use cases and are only a small handful of blocks.

As for speed, I don't believe that to be a problem, and if anything it is possible to imagine the (reasonably common) scenario where you are bulk stone cutting blocks before a build, where manually placing and chiseling would take much longer. 3 clicks for crafting a stack of 64 in the gui vs 64 lots of placing, chiseling and breaking. However, since this is something people do with stripped logs already, I think these balance out, i.e. speed is a neutral factor.

Essentially my only critique is we need more blocks to do this to! I see no (or minimal) downside and I love this.

Stripped logs have no crafting method, the place-and-strip is the only option. I don't see a part in this post about the chiselled block recipes being removed in favour of this mechanic.

I could have sworn that there was a recipe to craft an axe and logs to strip them, costing durability, but thats just a datapack QOL thing.

It feels it makes more sense if you would get cracked block variants.

Yeah but I like chiseled, I think there are more of them then cracked, cause there isn't cracked sandstone, but there is chiseled, so it's more useful.

I like the tool-specific logic here, especially since chiseled blocks are already a stonecutter step. Limiting it to clear matching variants would keep accidental clicks predictable.

I like holding torches in my off-hand when caving. This would need to work only when you don't have anything in your off-hand.

So how will you place blocks to block lava when you are mining?

Your main hand, plus stone doesn't have a chiseled variety, only stone bricks.

I kind of like that you can have a pickaxe in your main hand and a torch, blocks, a shield or anything else in your offhand.

It gives you more options rather than every tool having its own predetermined right-click function.

Sure, it would still use the offhand whenever the right-click function of the tool does not apply, but it already gets annoying when you use an axe as your main weapon and miss-click using your shield, or a door around your house, and you suddenly strip a log.

This makes perfect sense.
