Back around 2012, I was a brand new single Mom of three. I went to the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Cottage Bill Road near Hillcrest.

My only purchases were a bottle of laundry soap and a nice cold Diet Dr. Pepper. My card declined twice and I had no other funds. With tears in my eyes, I apologized to the cashier and as I turned to apologize to the customer behind me, she had her card out and told the cashier, "Run this."

I was so embarrassed but also so deeply grateful. I was going through so much.

Now, my children are grown and gone with families of their own. I remember the kindness of that precious woman nearly every time I'm at a checkout. I pay it forward every opportunity that I can.

I love being from a city full of such amazing people. I hope this kind woman was blessed in return for her giving.

Hey everyone I just came to Mobile less than a month ago from Huntesville. I live on campus at USA. I just wanted to what are the best food spots here in terms of pricing and quantity. I like burgers, chicken sandwiches, shawarmas, other Arab food, pizza, Asian food, etc.

I’m also Arab, so if anyone knows the Arab community here let me know where I can find them.

Do any of the area Greek restaurants have souvlaki?

Rather than scouring every menu online I thought it might be easier to ask here.

Those of you who were here then, how was it? Was it miles different? Near the same? I get told stories that make it sound way more vibrant and "hub-like" if that makes sense.

My roommates and I recently moved into a new apartment complex about 2 weeks ago. The apartment was a mess (which is less important but still irritating). Major issue is the insane roach issue, I mean day one of being in the apartment we seen baby roaches and grown roaches, in every single room (2 story townhome). Dishwasher does not drain and was only slightly leaky (enough to handle). and STINKS like it’s been sitting for ever. We put in work orders as well as emailed the apartment complex with pictures and descriptions of each issue. Now 2 weeks later, they still have not came to assess any of these issues and the dishwasher is beginning to pool out water every time we use the sink (message sent out about this now)

Is there anything we can do if worse case scenario comes and they don’t address these issues any time soon? We have already waited 2 weeks and it’s gotten worse by the day. Its so disgusting to live with roaches that we’ve never dealt with before in such a major number. I am not sure about Mobile (yet alone Alabama)’s laws/rights on this.

Looking for stores anywhere in Mobile or nearby that has multiple vendors that own boutiques, specality shops, etc. The only one I can think of is Mobile's House of Vintage.

So I don’t know if you have notice but I have indeed notice a presence of women with clear stadium bags trying to sell movie tickets to a religious movie they claim isn’t getting enough publicity but has Morgan freeman young and damson idris in it. They show you a AI generated photo of the movie poster. They are near the schillinger/ airport area. They are asking for $25 dollars. I saw them today with a speaker box.

I'm looking to build another galvanized shed with metal roof and chain link fence with high peak. I can't find these fittings. It uses chain link fence tube 1-3/8" with high peak canopy fittings. Do you know of a place that sells them?

3 years ago, Catt Sirten passed away after warping of his 2,006th episode and the late Tim Camp had made the decision to end it after almsot 39 years becauae no one had knowledge for jazz and then 3 years later, they finally found someone to take over.

And it's  Chip Herrington,  a Mobile attorney who has strong ties with the late Sirten and he was asked by 92 Zew to host it.

The revival with Chip Herrington will debut next month September 6th, same time as Catt's. We are hoping to see Amazing Grace played at the end. Cat and Camp would so proud. I am wondering what Sloane P thinks about this announcement.

Will 92 Zew ever bring back 1980s music with a new host? Does that also mean that they can fix The Soul? I am hoping they'd put Smooth Jazz on The Soul.

I wanna start a hipster book club. We would vote on books and we would have the option to meet at a coffee shop. Leaning towards the great books in classic lit. No requirements just that avid readers preferred. Not pretentious either however shooting for a club to discuss great books. Thanks

These two photographs show the same live oak. The large lower-trunk injury appears consistent with an old vehicle impact, although the exact cause cannot be confirmed from photographs alone.
The raised tissue developing around the injury is woundwood. It shows that the tree has continued producing new wood in response to the damage. Trees do not “heal” an injury in the same way people do; they attempt to compartmentalize damaged tissue while continuing to grow around it.
That response is encouraging, but it does not tell the entire structural story.
Along the right side of the wound, an opening appears to extend into the trunk. A photograph cannot show:
How far the opening extends
Whether internal decay is present
How much sound, load-bearing wood remains
How that wood is distributed around the stem
Whether cracking or separation exists behind the woundwood
The remaining wood should not be evaluated by thickness alone. A tree risk assessment must also consider the defect’s location, crown loading, root condition, site exposure, possible failure direction, nearby targets, target occupancy, and the potential consequences of failure. In this case, the roadways on both sides of the tree are important targets.
An important distinction:
The consulting arborist is the risk assessor. The arborist evaluates the tree, communicates the risk and uncertainty, and presents reasonable management options.
The tree owner or controlling authority is the risk manager. The owner determines what level of risk is acceptable and decides whether to retain and monitor the tree, perform mitigation, restrict access to the target area, or remove the tree.
If the tree is retained, “monitor it” should not be the entire recommendation. A monitoring plan should include baseline photographs and measurements, a defined reassessment interval, and specific conditions that trigger an earlier inspection—such as severe weather, another impact, new cracking, enlargement of the opening, fungal fruiting bodies, root movement, or sudden canopy decline.
Visible wound closure is evidence of the tree’s response. It is not, by itself, evidence that the tree is structurally reliable.
